Most players only think about the money bubble.

I think there are actually three bubbles in a typical 600-700 player freeroll.

Bubble #1: The Survival Bubble (First 30-40 minutes)

This is when reckless players eliminate themselves. You don't need to beat them. You just need to avoid becoming one of them.

Bubble #2: The Fear Bubble (Middle Stage)

Blinds start hurting. Many players stop opening hands because they don't want to lose chips. This is when stealing blinds becomes more valuable than waiting for premium cards.

Bubble #3: The Prize Bubble

Everyone knows this one. Short stacks tighten up, while big stacks can apply maximum pressure.

Most freeroll advice focuses only on the last bubble.

I believe the players who recognize all three "mental bubbles" make better decisions throughout the tournament, not just near the money.

Do you agree, or do you think the only bubble that matters is the money bubble?

For freerolls you need to also count the bubbles that are floating around inside the majority of players heads:ROFLMAO:

I agree with your thinking but would call the first 2 stages rather than bubbles, the trick is recognising who you can exploit at each stage - not everyone is reacting the same to the "pressure" in each stage (some are just obvious to it)

That's a fair point. "Stages" is probably a better term than "bubbles." I like your observation that the real edge comes from identifying who is feeling the pressure and who isn't. Two players can have the same stack, but completely different mindsets, and that's often where the profitable decisions come from. Thanks for the perspective!

I like that idea. The final table is definitely another psychological milestone. Even players who were aggressive all tournament often tighten up because every pay jump starts to feel more significant. It becomes less about the cards and more about understanding how everyone values survival.

😂 That's one way to deal with it! At least you're not letting the bubble make your decisions.
