In general, I prefer normal speed. However, if it's a freeroll with thousands of players in it, I would prefer a hyper turbo format otherwise the game is going to take waaaaay too long.

The more time we can spend with a decent stack, the more "chip utility" we have and the more that poker skill applies.

The more time we spend short stacked, the higher the variance, the less skill is required and the more that luck will determine our outcome.

While there are certainly skill elements to short stack poker, when we are shoving our entire stack, luck is the predominant determining factor.

I prefer to play poker and make good decisions (standard structures). But I understand the preference for more speed and more action. My playing style would just spew money if hyper is what I played.

Good luck and God bless.

I like tournaments with a smooth change of bets. I don't like turbo tournaments, because luck plays a bigger role there ...

when the buy is high or medium i would rather prefer a slow tournament structure like 10000 chips and 15 or 20 minute increasing blinds however on lower buy in tournaments or freerolls i would rather prefer playing turbo or even hyper turbo speed even though i dont mind playing slower games specially if there's good cash prices..

I dislike Hyper tournamnets. Turbo ones are not easy and they are the limit of velocity for me.

I don't like turbo tournaments ( they remind me of a lottery , not poker). Although if you don't have much time then it's probably a good choice!

It really depends on my mood.
Hyper turbo the best for the satellites, if you are out, you can fast play another one.
The really big tournaments requires slow levels.
But not considering this 2 cases, I like normal and turbo, and that's when my mood is involved.

Good morning to you all. ask the question post you refer a normal structure a fast structure and in between structure a turbo structure. I prefer normal blind structure between 8 and 10 minutes maybe longer depending on how the blinds are in a correlation to that also it does help in that is are they starting stacks deep enough that's a very key issue also but I would prefer a normal blind structure. I think it needs to get back to that somewhat you see that long on American card room a lot of their tournaments even their small stakes micro tournaments have long blind structures and a lot of chips they're very well structured so I would prefer a normal blind structure well I'm about ready to get going you all have a nice day .

Yeah, I found ACR MTT's slow too even with so much late-registration, so there you really have to chose which will be okay to your time in my opinion.

Normal. Make the skill edge as pronounced as possible, and be the best player you can be. So much of busting out is just variance - longer games, two or three tables and a healthy bank roll are your best shot at "controlling" it.

When I first started playing tournaments, I would only play turbos and hypers as I didn't have the patience for long and slow tournaments. I'd get too bored and start to play badly or punt my chips on purpose.

Thankfully, that has since changed as I've been playing poker for longer now. Now, I play more 'normal' speed tournaments, purely because there are more of them to play, but I still love playing turbos and hypers as well.

Even though the pace of play doesn't bother me anymore, my preferred tournaments are probably just about hypers. The possibility of turning a small amount of money into a decent amount in a very small time frame is very appealing. Attached is a tournament I played a couple years ago. Turned $2.20 into $164 in under 2 hours.
You can also learn a hell of a lot from playing hypers and turbos as well which you can bring with you into the normal or slower paced MTTs. The main things I learnt are people's ranges at different stages but mainly how to play really effectively with a shortstack. Once you're ITM of a hyper, if you have over 20BB you have TOOOOONS. Even having around 10BB isn't really a worry in a hyper. In the normal MTTs, a lot of people will get to around 15BB and just shove or fold. Doing it that way, you're maximising the risk of busting and also minimizing the chance of gaining chips. Limping in with a small stack won't be recommended by most people but once you've got a lot of experience playing turbos and hypers, it's a strategy you can definitely take across with you and can be very effective 20210104 061020

I prefer turbos, mostly because I don't generally have the time for slower tournaments. It does sometimes feel like a bit of a lottery as you'll quickly be playing hands for a big portion of your stack, but if you bust out very quickly you can always register for another! I don't feel like the lottery thing is all that bad for me anyway as I don't think I have a particularly big skill edge over my opponents (yet!)

I prefer a normal tournament with blind levels eight to ten minutes and possibly longer, depending on the blind structure. I've seen tournaments have shorter blind levels, but have small blind increases from level to level. I have also seen tourneys with longer levels with steep blind increases. So sometimes it can be six on one hand and half a dozen on the other. I just like normal tourney with decent level lengths (not too long or short), reasonable blind increases, and about an hour of late registration. I think the shorter levels and steeper blind increases are less conducive to good poker play and tend to promote more donkery.

I prefer turbos for lower stake mtts. With, say, 5 min blinds the late registration period is usually an hour or less so I'm not sitting in front of my computer for 2-3 hours as we grind down to the bubble. With higher stakes I play normal speed because the tables tend to stay together longer allowing for more study of the other players and a better chance to build the stack. Since these mtt can last a long time I prefer to only play them occasionally.

In lower stakes you often see weaker players who start to get into difficulty when the turbo speed blinds start becoming a factor. With only 5 mins to the next blind jump these players start feeling the pressure and making mistakes.
Sooooo turbo tournaments are better for patient people?

Better than hypers but the best for really patient players would be regular speed (8+minute blind levels). It gives you a lot more time to pick up chipd bit by bit and not worry about becoming a shortstack due to quick blinds

hello

i really like the turbo there is no drag on the gameplay but on the other hand those who just register and don't sit in are very annoying with the time drag of the game

Same type of tournament over the years

Normal and Turbo are definitely my favorite. Most of the times I see myself playing too many hands on a Hyper game.

Congratulations. I think the same way. Turbo and hypers are good experiences, which are valuable for playing normal tournaments well. GL and we meet at the tables.:cool::cool:

It's best if the blinds are 5 mins so turbo is going fast, fast game. I do not like slow play, as the blinds are after 10 minutes .. unless it is a tournament with a large pool, e.g. $ 20,000, the blinds every 8 minutes would be ok

My preferences vary depending on the day of the week. Hyper turbo i do not like directly, I think they depend 90% on luck. On the days of the week that I'm working i prefer Turbo since don't have much time. But on weekends I play Normal, which I think is the one that i need the least percentage of luck to win.

For me it depends on how much time I have to play. When I dont have to think about time, I normaly play deep stack and maybe a couple of sit-go/cash games on the side

I particularly prefer more time-consuming tournaments, because that way, whoever is more prepared for the game wins. But I also like the seats, because they are also fast.
