Its nice to have an article about Satellites. I never played one cause I dont know if they worth it. So, are they smart investment or a risky proposition? The next article should be, how to know if you are a break even player or if you are coming ahead from the average player.:p:p

Satellites

I love not hyper-turbo satellites. The slowest satellite, the better it is.Alot more of weak players there, it is worth to play them but only with aggresive strong playstyle and only with good bankroll management. Today is Winter Series on Pokerstars, also alot of slow and middle-speed sats to main events.

If there are more satellites to the main tournament and each time over 30% players go to the next round, it is best to play more aggressively at the beginning and when we collect the chips, sit out, because if we continue play, we can lose the stack and on some very strong cards .. But if we play a satellite where only few players get a ticket, are best to play aggressively but wisely, because there are many loose aggressive players..

I usually play that kind of matchs, very enlightening the article. Thank you for your help guys, one more time, you clarifying my ideas, anyway, i have my point here too, it`s really like you say, but, i guess we need to play technician until the first stop, after that we need to be more carefull at reading our mates on the table.

We've all heard the stories (or maybe lived it) about players winning a seat to a major tournament through small-stakes satellites. There is definitely a strategy to playing to satellite into big tournaments. Is it worth it to satty in, or just play the buy-in? Should you fold that big pocket pair pre-flop on the bubble? There are a lot of factors to consider when playing satellite tournaments. That's why we put together this guide for you:

Poker Satellite Tournament Guide

Read through the article and then let us know your thoughts! Were there pointers that you hadn't considered? What are some of your satellite tips? We're all ears!

In a 6 month period I have played 19 championship events thanks to 16 satellite wins looking back at my notes.
The thing is if you can not win entry for a quarter of the price on average in a tough satellite what chance to you have against thousands of regulars and pros in a serious game?
You have got to steal pots when you have nothing and fold huge pairs and sets even,
When you just know one of your opponents just rivered a straight or flush or whatever.
I like the fact winning a satellite to Sunday million or other tournaments it forces you to do or die and play as can not unregister and play other games or lose bankroll elsewhere.
Or talk yourself out of playing due to BRM.
Dissappointed only cashed 5 of these 19 games but I will never give up until I succeed every setback is a learning experience.
You need to want to win as much as you want to breathe and never give up.:)

honestly i think its better to try to win the tickets on the spin n go for the special events , either you get your ticket or double your money , if you win of course but its a 3 players game that would last few minutes only, either way "This structure significantly reduces the skill factor" ( even thought i disagree with the article saying it minimize your skills factor on the win i would say it is a different skill just like spin n go's need another kind of skill , just like cash and tournament need different approches ) so if your going to get lucky better get lucky and win that ticket in few minutes or double up that money ^^

No, it is not profitable, it is better to pay, but I play it badly, maybe someone plays strongly,

that is, you can lose 15 times and even overpay and spend another 20 hours, and a broken mind, and a headache and fatigue ...

but of course it happens that you were lucky with the first attempt and you saved a lot, but this rarely happens.

I think that most of the tournament satellites have to play aggressive in the first 30 minutes of the tournament, depending on what type of level they are if they are turbocharged or normal turbos, in my opinion it is preferable to play the turbo satellites, since the hyper turbo is a roulette that anyone can win with mediocre cards, as in live satellite tournaments it is best to play with high-ranking hands and connected pairs, since the blinds make you more strident to your opponents, but the life of the satellites for tournaments is a lot of variance and we have to handle the stack and the way to play well

As for this satellite article, I think playing the same well, if you do not have a lot of money available for a particular tournament, I've spent a lot of money on satellites, instead of directly paying me, well, everything depends on the input and how much the player plays All in all, these satellites should be played by aggressive players who are confident about their skills in playing poker.

satellites are certainly more profitable than the starting buy-in for an expensive tournament. I won some satellites, but didn't win the tournaments themselves from these satellites. so I think this is really a big saving for the bankroll. about lay down their aces, I agree, a lot of cases where this happens.

Actually I play all freerolls and free/micro satellites I can find,
but this is because I do not put any money online and play only
from the winnings. Then only when I won the ticket in a satellite I
would play the main event.

Otherwise the satellites quite often they last over two hours , they have enormous number of players, low initial bankroll and they are not the most efficient use of the time.

There is so much to consider under the general topic of "Satellites". Before I play one, I like to know where I'm going. PartyPoker has a lot of seemingly endless "Step Satellites" where you have to win several steps to an "ultimate" satty to a huge tourney. I'm not too keen on these. If it's a FreeRoll to multiple steps (like ACR Venom), I happily play with the expectation of having a good time and maybe winning a big ticket.

For anyone fortunate enough to live near a live venue that accepts "PartyPoker Live Dollars" - the PPL$$ can lead to lots of live action for very little investment. PPL$$ can be won directly by playing "Satellites" or by stepping up, up , up from a minimum of a $.55 in several "Feeder Ticket" satellites to big amounts (thousands of PPL$$). I live near Playground Poker Club and plan on turning a small investment of money (won on many FreeRolls), and a rather large investment in time into lots of live action.

I often play Satellites, I rarely go into tournaments paying Bains. But I play giperturbo Satellites sit & go 4max shotout. In them I have to win 2 or more tables to win one of the entrances to the target tournament. In my opinion it is much faster and easier than conventional satellites to play. Important in such tournaments do not lose your head and go all-in every time.

Great article. I know many people from our forum who won a lot of money thanks to the satellites. I myself have reached tournaments for 215 dollars several times, having passed even 3-4 satellite to a row. However, he could not win the main tournament yet. But I continue to play satellites.

Great article with very good strategies for this type of tournaments
When I play a very long satellite I end up tired and become hard to play immediately after the objective tournament and adapt to it faster, since the satellite tournaments tend to be more aggressive, then the player always end up with a lot of adrenaline and aggressive game in your mind that is very difficult to get down, to adapt to a new structure of tournament that its just starting, and is slow and very tight.

But I think it's worth playing the satellites when they are turbo or faster, and if the objective tournament does not start immediately after, since a small investment of money allows us to play a tournament of a higher cost, that sometimes is out of our bankroll or just taking care of it.

The main factor is patience when making decisions, a tight aggresive aproach at the beginning is probably the best way for st. tournament. Be aware of position!
And be prepared for long hours playing! :)

This is really useful and wise article cause it gives me very interesting information and now I know how to play sattellites beter for my brm.As for the situation with pocket Aces I supposed that it can happen and to my mind I would also fold cause the aim is to get ticket but not to win the tourney!!!

The bubble of a satellite is always tense. You can fold easily with AQ AK hahaha. I prefer to play the 6 and 16 players. I almost always get the ticket. I've heard that there are players who only play satellites and manage to increase their BR of that size. Quite curious this strategy.

Personally I use a lot of starscoin and other rewards to try satellite in to bigger fields but tend to steer clear otherwise. I have also made the famous AA laydown in a satellite. All about getting the ticket.
