Poker seems to position itself as a sport, although, in my opinion, there is an element of excitement, especially when you play for money. I personally only play tournaments with chips, so for me it is a sport, a hobby that I want to turn into pleasure

Yes , in some percentages it is about luck but for a short term.
In long term is all about skill

Per definition: Yes, it is gambling.
It is not up to anyone’s opinion about how well they can play and how much money they can make without getting any hands. Fact is, that it is gambling. It DOES have a big element of skills. But it is still objectively gambling. 🙂

I don't think poker is gambling. I'd say it more like a probability calculation;)

In my opinion, this is a gamble, since gambling is money bets and when you buy-in to one of the tournaments it is automatically credited as a bet)

For me poker is still gambling if you are newbie but if you are skilled player then it is not gambling then it is skill game and it depends in which site you are playing poker.

Regardless of the name change, cash poker will always be gambling. Although in many countries people talk about the randomness of the game and compare it to a lottery.

It's a skill based game where one can have an edge over opponents. But it's still gambling.

Poker, like all cash games, is a game of chance.

It's clear now that poker is gambling in general, I like to thank all who responded and explained why this game is gambling, even if there's more skill involved than other games like blackjack.
There is just as much skill involved with playing blackjack correctly as there is with poker. You must know when to vary your bets, when to vary your play, and keep track of the high cards and the low cards to calculate when the deck/shoe is in your favor. Yes a person can sit at a blackjack, or poker, table and just play by hunches, but to have an edge takes an immense amount of time and practice with both.

I feel like there needs to be major correction to this that no one mentioned.

Tournaments are not gambling.

At least not based on the definition of the word.

In a tournament - you pay to compete.
The individual bets have no monetary value.

You don’t place any “wagers”. The buy in doesn’t count as a bet.

if it did - you’d have to consider any competitive event with a buy-in as ‘gambling’
Interesting point, and would make a good thread of it's own. :) I started playing poker tournaments to do something competitive again. I'd never thought about it but when I've paid to enter a sporting clays tournament, I actually was betting/gambling that I can outshoot the other competitors in my class. If you do well you win a prize, just like you do in a poker tournament.

poker is a game of skill and not gambling to me. The problem is many people don't work on the skills to become a good poker player. For those players is more of a gambling game.

I think it's gambling even though skill is involved and your results are mostly based on your skill and a little bit of luck. The reason I say it's gambling is because you're basically risking money to win money if you're playing for money and that by definition is gambling in my book.
I don't agree because most businesses would be covered by your definition. And what about the stock market? You are putting down money to hopefully make a profit. Same thing
