One definition of gambling is to take risky action in hopes of a desired result… So yes, poker is gambling.

The argument about money being involved is also true. I am paying to play in a tournament. If I am paying for the entertainment of playing… Similar to paying to play an arcade game, then there is no gambling involved. However, while playing in that tournament, I will be gambling my chips every hand I play… that part would still be gambling.

Unless the result of a decision is 100% certain every decision we make is a gamble… I am gambling with my life when I walk across the road.

For me, poker is a game that contains several ways to play, so you determine the way to play, whether to use strategies or rely on luck and gambling .

The classification of poker as gambling depends on how you define gambling. Poker involves elements of both skill and chance, making it a unique game that falls into a gray area between gambling and skill-based competition. Here are some points to consider:

  1. Skill: Poker is widely recognized as a game of skill. Players can study and improve their understanding of the game, develop strategies, and make decisions based on probabilities, psychology, and reading opponents. Skilled players consistently outperform less-skilled players over the long run.
  2. Chance: Despite the skill involved, poker still contains an element of chance. The distribution of cards is random, and players do not have control over the cards they receive. The outcome of a particular hand or session can be influenced by luck, as players need favorable card distributions or situations to win.
  3. Risk and Uncertainty: Like gambling, poker involves risk and uncertainty. Players wager money with the potential to win or lose based on the outcome of the game. The unpredictable nature of poker contributes to its excitement and creates a sense of uncertainty that can be similar to other forms of gambling.
  4. Legal Classification: The legal classification of poker varies in different jurisdictions. In some places, poker is considered a form of gambling and is subject to specific regulations and licensing requirements. In other jurisdictions, the legal status of poker may be determined by whether it is predominantly seen as a game of skill or chance.
Overall, while poker shares some characteristics with gambling, the skill component distinguishes it from pure games of chance like slot machines or roulette. Many countries and legal authorities recognize the skill aspect of poker and regulate it separately from other forms of gambling. It's important to research and understand the specific laws and regulations in your jurisdiction to determine how poker is classified

You can believe what is best for you, bro. I think there are a way to win with strategy, when the luck is not with you, you can be a pro and scape safe from many situations.

Poker is a game of skill! It's like the financial market, you earn with studies and in the long term.
But this is not pure skill bro. Maybe if you are constant and you play very well. But you are ever gambling.

I would say if you being money to the table you are gambling. But I do wonder if I am gambling as I usually only play freerolls or micros (with the money I have won)?

I personally don't believe that it is, yes, money is involved in this game, but there are other games and tournaments that also involves money. Also unlike typical casino games like Blackjack, more skill than luck is involved to do well in this game.

I'm curious to hear what you guys think.
Yes, of course it is.
Poker is a game of chance. Skill, experience and patience matter in any game, in any sport, in any person's life. But definitely poker is a game of chance.

Well, that's like asking if a banana is a fruit or a yellow boomerang for monkeys. You see, poker is a delightful blend of strategic thinking, mind-reading, and praying to the poker gods for a royal flush. It's a game where you can fold more times than origami enthusiasts on a caffeine binge.

Sure, there's an element of chance involved, like trying to find a parking spot during rush hour or hoping your favorite pair of socks magically reappears from the laundry abyss. But poker is not just about luck; it's about embracing the chaos of the cards while skillfully convincing your opponents that you have the secret recipe for winning hands.

So, is poker gambling? Nah, it's more like a high-stakes, intellectual dance party where the rhythm of the chips clinking is music to your ears, and the thrill of a well-executed bluff is like doing a victory dance on a tightrope. Just remember, in the game of poker, fortune favors the bold, the witty, and those who are quick enough to dodge the flying chip projectiles of their frustrated opponents.

Yes, it is gambling and you should only play with your bankroll that does not impact your living expenses. It's not as bad as slot machines, but with variance and the unpredictability of other players, I still consider it gambling.

Depends on which optics you see.
One of the commandments that poker professionals take seriously is that they should not just become gamblers.
Slot, roulette, punto/banca, lottery, bingo and others, are games where bettors play only the luck of their day.
Poker is different, as long as you don't also find gamblers within it.
Cash games for me are very difficult games, because there are so many gamblers there. What we call bingo players.
Those players don't know strategy, or positions, or anything. They play because they have 2 cards in their hand that they generally like all the time. And if they catch you in one of their hands that raised a bet, you are in the oven, dear friend.
they only see flops. In fact, some if they have 34s still pay an AA, they are not interested. Your hand will always be the best until the end of the showdown.
They don't care, they play slots the same as poker.
Sooner or later they always lose, the problem remains that it's just the moment you're at a table and just that player hooks you in one hand all the work that perhaps cost you hours to achieve.
That's why it's best to play MTT. There the gamblers last very little if any, there they must face the tournament seriously, and well maybe they catch a hand, but in the long run they never succeed.
greetings friend:):):)

It's a game of skill with an element of luck. Well, where there is an element of luck, there is also excitement. Although there is more skill than luck.

Of course it is! If you're just playing for fun that's fair enough but you're putting money in to try and win some = gambling!

Not all questions can be answered with "yes" or "no". Sometimes the answer can be "yes" and "no" at the same time.

It depends on your vision. If you play poker from time to time as an amateur, in this case the answer is "yes" because the luck factor is present and can influence your result regardless of whether you play well or not.

On the other hand, if you play a large number of games correctly, in this case the answer is "no" because the luck factor cancels out and it is your level that determines your result.
