I want to make this post to let people know what happened this week.

My brother had his PokerStars account hacked and lost 100$.
He simply logged in and his money wasnt there anymore.
He contacted support and support confirmed the hack but told him they were not going to give his money back, because he was responsible for his password.

So basically this is like a bank being robbed and telling their customers that their money is gone and thats their own fault.

Also how come a customer should be punished because of a flaw in a security system that doesnt belong to the customer?

Everyone can get hacked, even FBI and NASA get hacked sometimes.
But keeping your money without any kind of insurance is unethical and imoral in my opinion and thats why im also leaving PokerStars in the next weeks.

For everybody who have a PokerStars account, take care. Dont leave more than you need to play or more than you could afford to lose, because if someone steal your stuff, PokerStars wont care and will blame you.

Sorry for the bad english, its not my native language.

Good games for all.

I am not a great player .... I lost all my deposit .....
But really, you are talking about $ 100 ... you work a few hours and you get it back. Why do you want the pokerstars to rob you? Why do you want a pirate to do that?

What competing poker site do you work for?

I know people whose job it is to write bad reviews on forums for businesses to try and hurt them. You’ve been a member here since June yet this is your first post. And it’s your brothers account. And now he’s blocked out of his account.
Maybe ....

im not here to ask anyone to believe me.
if you want to think i work for another poker site its fine.
if you want to think my brother lost his money while drunk its also fine.
just wanted to post what happened so people could know.
its your right to not believe, but keep in mind that PokerStars wont give your money back if you get hacked, thats all.

and its also funny finding out that they sell more security for their own security system.

sounds like a joke to me.

Much like when people's credit card details get compromised online it's not the bank's fault, this isn't Pokerstars' fault.

He would of
A) had a virus on his PC
B) used the same password for his PS account as a member account on some site which was hacked
C) have a really obvious password that some scammer guessed

In any case it could of been avoided by him treading carefully.

my father was banned from pokerstars cos he messed up his date of birth by one digit. i feel very bad for him cos he disallowed him from cashing out his remaining bankroll, apparently there were a couple other issues that having a changed address and playing with the same account in a different country then having moved back. :/ quite lame

Be careful

Your brother should be concerned that his idendity is not compromised as well because if someone if hacking into his cpu they could have more personal information than just your brother's poker account info.

However if someone that knew your brother's pw logged into his account he should be fine.

The OP is in total denial of how the thief may of got his brother's details, blaming PS for his trouble. Needless to say, his brother is in for a rough ride.

I do not see the point in having PokerStar deceive someone, they have their own 10% of the game organizations, I think it's enough for them and for the reliability of your account (password) you are solely responsible !!! To lose reputation because of $ 100 for pokerstars it is impossible !!!

That's good advice for any poker site. It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that slick looking gambling sites have similar guarantees to the major banks and credit card companies. They don't. They aren't government regulated. They are usually off-shore. You have zero recourse other than whatever goodwill they choose to garner if wronged by them or their policies.

Another account hacked

I have just had the very same experience where I received an email stating that there was some activity from another IP in Germany on my account. Turns out that it is a very similar amount of money $92 and guess what they are not responsible for my loss. I have never given out my details to anyone and I find it odd that the thieves know my poker handle to allow them to hack my account. The money was transferred to another account before disappearing. They then asked me to send verification information to reinstate my account. I told them to get stuffed and close my account because there are not many explanations if I have not divulged my info. 1. The thief is internal or 2. Pokerstars have had details stolen through a hack of their info which doesn’t sound likely. Interested to hear of anyone else who has had similar experience with a small amount of funds.

Thats exactly what happened to my brother. Pokerstars told him that the hacker only tried his password once and used that as an excuse to say the hack was my brothers fault.
Funny thing is that it happened on the day after Pokerstars went through "server instability" for hours and many tournaments were cancelled and refunded. After that they threw a lot of freerolls to "compensate" the downtime.
I wonder if my brothers money and yours were part of the freerolls prize.

Show the support response that they literally responded to the appeal to them. Usually in such cases they request log files. I had an experience when I asked for a refund, because I turned off the light and I returned the buy-in back. Either you're not telling us something or it's something else.

nice story btw.
can someone give Oscar to this guy and his friend, that has brother and his naphew whos friend with his trainers brother have asked that girls phone number, but she wrote her mothers number instead of her own number and when he made that call he found out that her mom has a pay per minute phone number and that's how he lost $100. Oscar for the best scenario is guaranteed.

What to do now, when we know who is guilty?

Option A)
Go to court, hire lawyers and crack that son of a pokerstars for 10 million bucks cause it happened to you!

Option B)
Scan your incoming and outgoing logs of traffic for unwanted activity. Because most probably when you and your brother are downloading your favorite pron videos - you're also getting a fresh viruses that are not recognised by your antivirus software... These fresh viruses will be detected by antivirus companies in the year 2019. Before that date those who made those trojans, exploits, keyloggers and so on, they're using their software on your PC for their good. They can mine cryptocurrencies, search for UFOs and so on. Well browsing your logs is one of the options. Using your passwords is another.

You can request a detailed log of your recent games and activity on pokerstars by contacting support... Hand history will show who won your 100 pennies, was it a single user who won it or someone who used your account have lost 100 dollars to many different players. In case if your 100 dollars have been split between 10 different players I believe that you need to browse your real life drunk'n'drugs activity and search for memory losses of those around you, who have access to your account.

Take care.

They told me that the money was transferred to a different account but after that I don't know what happened. It strikes me as very odd that they now know or should know who the thief is but I have no doubt that after the recent 'server issues' that brought the poker site to a standstill that on the back of this they were hacked and people have lost their login information.

Feel sorry for anyone who has unknowingly lost their funds on a poker site which heightens the importance of being vigilant in regards to security and spreads an uneasy anxiety followed by a flood of updated, hexadecimal, passwords...

Best of luck finding a new, more trustworthy place to play poker online.

Do keep us informed!
