When you go to a casino, do you actually have a plan, or do you just take your time losing money?

I’ve been wondering how serious casino players actually approach it.

Because obviously, the house has the edge. That’s kind of the business model.
You don't see the Bellagio putting up a sign saying “Warning: some customers may accidentally make a profit.”

So what do regular gamblers actually do?

Do you stick to blackjack, baccarat etc. because the house edge is lower?
Do you set yourself a bankroll and stop when it’s gone?
Do you change your stakes depending on how you're doing?
Do you hunt down bonuses, promotions and comps?
Or do you just sit down, lose £200 and tell yourself you were “due”?

I’m particularly interested in people who gamble regularly rather than the occasional casino tourist.

Is there actually such a thing as being a good casino gambler, or are we all just looking for a more sophisticated way of donating money?

For me, having a plan mainly means setting a hard bankroll and knowing when to walk away. I’d rather focus on games with lower house edges than chase losses or increase stakes after losing. At the end, it’s entertainment, not an income.

So what games are you preference?
Do you know the house edge on them?

I mostly prefer blackjack, especially when the rules are good. With basic strategy, the house edge can be around 0.5% or lower, but it depends heavily on the table rules.

I play exclusively online and stick to slots. Before I start playing, I clearly determine the amount I’m willing to spend—usually $20 to $30. I try to take advantage of promotions when they’re available, but I always read the terms and conditions very carefully. I rarely change my bet size, I play at the minimum, wagering 10 or 25 cents per spin.

So you have a very controlled plan.

You know minimum bets aren't always best? Yes you risk less but your expectation (return percentage)can be lower depending on the game.

Yeah, I know. But I always play at the minimum stakes just to stay in the game longer and keep the cost down. Before I even start playing, I accept the fact that the money will be lost.

I only play live poker and/or video poker at a casino. On video poker I only play machines with Jacks of better payouts of 9-6.

I don't think you can make a plan to play casino...Unless you're a math genius capable of counting cards...which is forbidden😅

When I step into a casino then I have no real plan if I'm not playing poker and just try to have a good time and spend my money as entertainment.
