Sorry guys for my late appearance in this thread. I went out dancing last night and had school early in the morning and thus was not able to put together a blog. I had my first down day yesterday but we will persevere! I will be making a decision about blog days for Mondays and Wednesdays since I do have school the next days on those nights.

even if he doesn't make it, who cares? At the rate he's going, he'll have a good amount within 2 months. It's a win/win

if he makes it, yay
it he doesn't make it, he made a lot! yay
if he loses it all, who cares it was an $8 investment

good luck man

I don't think this is the point of OP starting this challenge. He wanted to prove how with hard work and dedication the average person could make a (relatively) lot of money by starting with a little.

Poker Blog - Day 6

Well after a day and a half break from poker it was time to get back into the fray. And what a good day it was. I took the day and a half to focus on my studies and work but Wednesday was all about poker. I have decided to change my blogs a bit in order to better suit me and also some of the viewers who have been reading my threads. I played in 3 sessions today starting from 3pm est til about 11:30pm est with each averaging about 2 hours and a little more then an hour break in between. It was a good day all around. I started off today below my 500 BB that I started with at this level and was very close at one point to moving down according the rules of BR management set forth. But, I tightened up my play considerably and started reading many of my opponents better after my day off. This proved to be very fruitful on this level as value checking (see below) seemed to rake in the big pots. These were donkeys and fish of another sort compared to the .02/.04 tables. These players seem to play better hands and know how to play a bit better but they still love to bet with nothing if you let em. During the later part of the day I ended up unlocking my first promotion for 20$ and after a great day of poker I am up to 87.08$ which is a little more then 45$ up from where I started.

Poker Lesson of the Day - Moving up In Stakes
As I learned the other day and have learned in the past moving up a level in stakes can be a daunting task. The money is larger, the players not only play better but differently altogether, the timing is different, etc. Many of the elements that make up any one poker game change but more so when you move in stakes. One of many things you can do to minimize the risk is tighten up your play. Do not change your play completely as if you are a winning player there is no need to get away from your winning play. But, folding a hand pre-flop that is on the edge or bluffing a bit less will often prove fruitful in learning the new stakes that you are playing at. This will not only minimize the risk as far as how many chips you are putting in the middle but also gives you a bit more time to look at the other players at your table. Some of the questions you might ask yourself are; How is the play different from the previous stakes? How will I have to adjust my play to maximize profit? Which of these players are loose and which are tight? Tightening play for the first time you play on a new level is often a very good idea.

I was doing real good playing sit n gos on fulltilt poker then when i finally got to $150 i went and played in blinds way over my head and lost everything i had. well at least i know to take easy the next time.

Poker Day 7

Today was a largely uneventful day in the way of amount of poker played. I tried to play between the hours of 1am - 2am est but the tables seemed to be largely unpopulated (perks of a small site). I did end up logging one fruitful session from 10pm est - 12am est that I very much enjoyed. You can see the results for yourself. The rest of the day was filled with school and study as is often the case on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Here are the results.

End of Day 6:

End of Day 7:

My plans are to play for most of the morning and afternoon before my dance class Friday nights. Hopefully, I can achieve the next level before then but as always with poker we will see.

$10000-60(2months)=$167 per day, Now don't get me wrong, I'm very happy that your doing well, and on the Up&Up. Yet the fact of it is, Do I believe you can make money doing this sure, do I believe you will make 10k in 2mnths, maybe doing something like 24 tables for 6 hours a day, at .5/.10 then sure, but as it stands now, not really. Yet I admire you for your dedication, and will, and time well spent in making up the game plan

Dude, for all the naysayers hating on this, I can only say that I don't care if you make it in 60 days, or 60 weeks, keep at this until it is accomplished and show us that it can be done in less time than CF took to parlay $0 - $10000. It is like most seem to overlook the fact that the part that took longest for him was that he needed to build from freerolls. Take that out and I think 5 months is completely doable in the amount of gaming able to be done by working stiffs like us!

Personally, I don't think I can do it, but I have about $8 left on PS myself, so I will try like hell.

Dude people aren't hating on this. I don't think anyone here really hope he fails. I for one hope he does make it. I hope he makes it in the time frame he wants, and sticks to all the parameters he set when stating the challege. It is by no means impossible, just incredibly unlikely.

Kowboys, I hope you do make it.

Good luck I hope you make it. A buddy of mine was just telling me something about this the other day and I told him I would try to make 40.00 turn into 10k. I was not sure what king of structure to use but yours sounds good to me. I know 40.00 might seem like alot but that is the number that popped into my head. I am playing at Sportsbook.com and I am up to almost 70.00 in one day. I have a small child and work full time so finding the time to play is hard for me but I am going to stick with it. My time line is until June before a trip to Vegas we have planned.

Day 7 Poker Q & A

Sorry for the delay on this part. I seem to be saying that a lot these days. But I have to admit the poker has to come first and the blogging second :)

Day 7 - Q & A

Q: When are you going to start playing some PLO Omaha hands?
A: Due to the horrible selection on the site for PLO I can't even start til I get to the next level (.10 / .25 ). But I will make it my first priority to play some PLO hands as I figure it will be particularly soft.

Q: Why did you start with 8$?
A: Why start with any number? I started with this number for a couple of reasons. 1. It happened to be 200 x the lowest BB they had 2. It seemed like an amount you could win from a freeroll which is why people would start with that low of a number. I could have gone lower but it would have put my BR at more of a risk

Q: How many years have you been playing poker for? What kind of skill level do you have?
A: I have been playing poker for about a year off and on. I am not a pro by any standard or measure. As indicated in some of my posts I am a 21 year old college student and that has always been my first priority. I don't believe I am at a skill level that some can't attain without some reading, experience and some math skills.

Q: Do you plan to continue if you don't make it in the time frame?
A: Absolutely, I set a time frame for myself to challenge myself and to make the crowds go ooo and aahhh not to say "hey two months then quit". I also fully intend to make the donations I indicated if my time frame is decently close to the time frame indicated.

Q: What about the comparisons to Chris Ferguson?
A: As I indicated before I have several advantages over C. Ferg in this challenge.
1. He started with 0$ and I started with 8$
2. He took 9 months to stabilize that 0$ at 6.50$
3. I have significantly more time to play then him due to pro obligations
4. I am playing with a more liberal bankroll plan then C. Ferg which allows me to move up and down more quickly.

Poker Lesson of the Day - Liberal vs. Conservative Bankroll Styles

I have had many players now say they will try something similar in trying to make a little bit of money into a lot. If they are serious and have the time I would suggest they take a look and use their own bankroll plan. The bankroll plan I am using is on the very liberal side of the spectrum. It allows me to move up quickly and thus make it in the allotted time frame. This isn't to say my plan isn't sound because the chances of going broke with this bankroll plan is still almost non-existent if you are a good player and you can contain your emotions. But the truth of the matter is there are better bankroll plans out there and they are all far more conservative then mine. There are several advantages to having a conservative bankroll vs. a liberal one and the two main ones are as follows.
1. Having a larger bankroll allows you to think more about the poker then the money since you can play longer without having to move up or down or even worrying about that.
2. Having a larger bankroll allows you to stay at each level for a longer amount of time and thus SEEP in a lot more poker wisdom from each level and apply it to your game.

There are some other advantages such as you can handle the variance of multi-tabling and other games such as Omaha. But these two main ones are big advantages over the liberal bankroll style I have chosen and I wouldn't trade them in if given the chance.

Poker Day 8 and 9

Day 8 started off very slowly. I was a bit groggy from the day before since I got to sleep pretty late. I was alright though and played for most of the day off and on (from 2pm est - 8pm est). It was a largely slow and uneventful session but I actually ended up down from where I was. In the end I didn't end up reaching my goal and hoped the next day proved more fruitful. The later part of the day was used for going to lunch with some friends, dance class and catching a flick at a local movie theatre.

Day 9 just got off on a bad foot. I have no idea what I did to make the poker gods hate me that much but indeed they did. Every single hand seemed to be even more of a cooler then the previous one. I have to admit there are many times when I should have just left the table and cut my losses but the cards kept coming. For about the last hour or so I was earning back my losses before some last minute bad beats in my session really killed my ego and finally I left. I ended up about 25$ down at one point on the day and a very very frustrated man. I decided to not play for the rest of the day since I had the 10k sunday freeroll the next day (starting in a couple hours).

Here is a screen shot of where I am right this minute.

Day 10 Blog

Day 10 Blog I decided to blog day 10 early so I could put more hours in for day 11. Unfortunately, I had another down day but I don't expect it to persist. Really I just didn't play my best today and that isn't acceptable for any poker player let along one who is trying to accomplish something like that. I will be drawing the line in the sand and playing firm aggressive poker tomorrow and playing a lot of it in hopes of a tremendous upswing. This blog is about today however. I played about 3 hours of poker (not nearly what I planned on playing) and started of badly like the day before. The only reason I am even close to even on the day is because I hit a monster series of hands (Trips, Flush, Quads and Trips again) all in a row. I did play the sunday freeroll today and went down when set hit on the flop, chips go in and he hits a rivered flush. Hopefully the next sunday freeroll will be much more fruitful. All in all it is really just a look forward to tomorrow and knowing that I will be tearing it up. Cheers!

Q & A and Lesson of the Day

Q & A

Q: In the hand "Genius, Plain Scared or Play Dumb" did you think the other player had a full house?
A: Obviously, I thought he had some kind of full house or I wouldn't have folded. I think he hit a set on the flop and then turned a full house.

Poker Lesson of the Day - Table Image

Table Image is a very important and integral part of how the other players perceive you and thus how they play you. A very weak looking player might prompt a bet from on opposing player. A strong player the opposite. A perceived tight player will prompt a lot of folding since they will think you have a hand. What you wear (in this case your accolades and awards) and other things will ultimately lead to a perception of you that will either make you a better player by prompting others to do things. You must remember that half of getting your opponents chips is making the bet, the other is to get him or her to call it. Table image depending how you use it can be a very big part of that.

Poker Hand of the Day - Day 10

I really believe this hand shows how table image in online poker can lead to a big payoff. I requested time (a lot of it) and pretended I was actually thinking about this with a smaller hand. I felt in control of the hand the entire time and was sure what he had.
