Determination alone has kept me with a bankroll. Why doesn't it work for you?

Well, so far I have deposited a total of two times with my own personal money and one time with $100 won on CC.

First time I deposited $50. I played $5.50 SnG's on carbon....took about a month and a half to lose that playing around 8 hours a day

Second time I deposited another $50 about 3 months later. Same deal, I would have a lot of cash finishes but then got into a losing streak like 20 games in a row....

the $100 I had transferred to me at JuicyStakes. I started playing $5 SnGs and other $5 tourneys.

I know I've been playing larger buy-ins than I should have been playing given my BR size. I just was not willing to put $500 into a site at that time. I didn't l ike the way people played at the $1.10 level so I stuck with $5 buy-ins. I figured if I am good enough i shoudl be able to build up a $500 BR with freerolls. Well, I am not good enough yet, apparently.

So yes, as far as BR management is concerned, I have quite a lot to learn. My next deposit will likely be around $500 and I will stick to $5 buy-in SnG's and tourneys (with no rebuys/addons) until I get up to $1000. at that point I'll start playing the $10 buy-in games and progress from there.

Here is my opinion and I'm just going to say it and not trying to pick a fight with anyone this thread already has a stick up their bums lol

There is obviously a cap on everything, No matter how hard I practice learn proper technique and work out I can only throw a football so far, I can only be so accurate. Just like the best Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers they have a cap there is only so far that they can achieve before they hit their cap. Their cap is just higher then most of the worlds..

Your cap depends on everything, Natural god or science (genes) given talent, nature, nurture, and how hard you practice, train, study, everything comes in to play even luck.

To say some one can never be at the level of Phil Ivey is incorrect or badly worded it's more you can't be at that level without some natural talent to the game, Everyone has a cap it doesn't mean we shouldn't try to reach the top because we will have a cap because we never truly know what our cap is before we give it our absolute all..

as Dugs said (I think it was Dugs) born with intellect is huge in poker as well and it's another thing that can't be achieved through hard work and studying no matter how hard I try I will never be as smart as Albert Einstein.. Some of the best were just born smart such as Phil Laak and Stu ungar known as the most amazing man to play poker he is just smart he was doing the books for his dad as a child...

Can you reach the top without some sort of natural talent? I don't know Michael Jordan was told he would never be able to make the highschool basketball team so he got in the gym and trained... but at the same time Michael Jordan was tearing up JV for 80 points a game so he obviously had the talent... =o

Everyone is a genius at something. Ivey gets poker, bolt gets running, jordan got basketball and hendrix got guitar....nobody can force a specific disipline and expect to be a genius....you either get it or you dont in elite terms.....just because you study hard and love poker doesnt mean to say your brain capacity for that subject will make everyone geniuses....it is as simple as that.

See everyone is talking about caps, the problem is I don't disagree everyone has a "cap" mentally at something. What I have a problem is thr way he presents it is saying, you have a "cap" on poker knowledge you can learn. Which I don't believe is true. Your skill/ability might "cap" out, but how would you know? Poker is a game you can constantly learn from, i am sure there is a "cap" for everyone at how good they get at poker, I wouldnt say a cap on knowledge of it. Also, I just didnt like how he compared poker to chess, because you can't just say there is only one way to play poker or one poker game. With so many poker variations and how different the game is i think they shouldnt even be comparable. If you wanna compare something to chess, compare it to checkers :p not poker. Only thing the two really have in common, is have to kinda try to predict players next move in both games. I don't disagree with the video, it is just a dumb video. Like i said, no shit we arent playing with elites, yes Phil Ivey is one of the best. I already knew this, so his video is konda just a pointless ramble.

Chess is more comparable to poker then checkers is comparable to chess lol

Chess has different line variations like poker does also Checkers is a game that has been perfected chess has not and probably never will

IMO punctual and jpoling have just taken what Ed's saying the wrong way. Listen again to the very beginning, he basically says this is for the normal regular poker player. Not sure where the negativity is in this, he's telling new players they are worse than they think, but they can get better. Just don't expect to be the next Phil Ivey. I really don't even get where you think he's calling Phil Ivey god, he basically says the elite, and uses Ivey as an example.

This thread was more entertaining than this video. Was there anything more in the 2nd part?

Oh, and where is this loser mentality in the video?

* Skipping $1 games because you don't like the play is a mistake lots of people make. If you can't beat bad play at the lowest level what makes you think you can beat the next level?

Also I think there is a cap on how much you can learn about poker.. Goes back to the Albert Einstein thing no matter how much I try to learn it some of it I will forget and some of it I just won't comprehend

Here is an example of what goes through a top players head

https://www.cardschat.com/forum/gen...analyzes-cardschat-member-redwards92s-242266/

It's just in a different league and no book is going to make me think like that =(

I could kiss you for bringing that to my attention, it shows what i needed to see what I always knew but denied because I had been conditioned to deny. Inside me is a sleeping dragon, I keep expecting to see that others are on a level my dragon cannot be on, but instead keep seeing not only are they not ahead they are behind. I realize now what Tom Dwan really is.

now its not a matter of saying i am or am not capable of reaching world class standard. I no longer have belief about it I know as a fact that I am capable of it.

The problems I have are the following
1. lack of time yes this is an obstacle as has been identified i will simply have to use what time I have got to the max extent and more time will become available when i quit my job obviously not any time soon but i will know when the time is right.

2. the state of the poker industry yes it may die if this happens then I am screwed, its rather unpredictable at the moment though. If world war three happens I am also screwed and if an economic collapse happens also in trouble. an economic collapse is not a probability it is an absolute certainty however the unknown is when so have to put that aside.

3. the big one my drive and work rate this has always held me back i demand so much of myself that in the end i crack under the stress and end up doing nothing, or near nothing.

well not anymore i will cut out all forms of social life dating and hobbies. the only activities that are needed is studying poker eating (need to adapt a brain diet and give up my current junk diet) going to stupid job (will run to bus stop from now on to save a little time) and before any stupid idiot says why dont i get a car because parking is stupid there and it would mean parking to far away and walking from there when the bus stops near right outside the place and when you add the times up it is actually quicker to get the bus. because god doesnt hate me he just likes to laugh when i get annoyed and wind me up a bit to create a scenario where getting a bus is quicker then going by car.
anyways yes work bus running to bus eating and sleeping, there is a way to manipulate dreams i will learn to do this better until my dreams are about poker this will lead to learning whilst i sleep. lunch breaks will be spent practicing maths and hand charts.

I dont know about been the very best but I am going to become world class. ill force myself to.

Sir... It's true poker is great, though I think you should also do other things. You think people like dwan or galfond play ALL THE TIME? They don't. They have lives. Manipulating ur dreams? Not good. Dude.... Live life to it's fullest. Life is too short to just grind poker all the time IMO :)

This is spot on. Do some research on Ed Miller, though, because it'll tell you more than the video alone will and helps you understand the angle a bit better. Perhaps that's why this comes across the way it does to some?

its not only about Ed miller its about all those so called Pros of youtube who call players as a donkey a fish and other disrespectful words which only shows utter disregard if you think these things about other people then their is something seriously wrong with your head this is why poker has gone from most developing game to just a game.
There is no other game where you disrespect your challenger in that degrading manner. Overconfidence or arrogance but if you have same point of view in your life then you are just a L.......

that's an entirely different matter, and a completely different subject area. I don't think it achieves anything positive. some people put a lot of hard work into there game and when your running bad getting unlucky and losing to people who clearly have made no effort what so ever, it can get incredibly infuriating.

If they truly are better the you with no effort then that's degrading. however you know the math you know there's no way they can make profit doing that it can drive you nutz.

the question should be what do you want do you really want a community of people that work as hard as you do that never play bad poker? when you look at how much money you started with and how much money you have made now you realize you need them. you realize you want them. but when your running bad it can be easy to forget that.

also people don't like losing money its not a pleasant experience.
