At What Level of Buy-in do you Start Feeling Stressed?

The question is how stress affect on the game??? And what make this stress strong enough to make you loose control???

Then the real question, is it only about how much you are about to loose???

If a buy-in is so high that it stresses you - you are most likely playing outside of what you can afford.

Short stack with less than 10BB or

Bubble with BB so big and chip count almost the same (e.g. B/BB 400/800 and everybody in table around 4BB)

I agree with Dakota, If you are getting stressed just sitting down at the table after registration you are playing with too much money. Always stick to what you are comfortable losing. In a tournament there is a 70% chance you wont make the money, a 85% chance you wont make the final table, and 98.5% chance you wont win...

How did I come up with that? I don't remember where I saw it, but it is documented that the most consistent/profitable MTT Specialist on avg. will cash only 30% of the time. Make the final table 15% of the time, and win only 1.5% of the time.

With that said, don't ever bet the house with a 15% chance for a solid return. along with a 30% chance to break even.

The only time a player should feel stress is if he is playing outside bankroll requirements. I won't play any no limit cash or tournament without 75 buy-ins. I have broken those rules before while drinking and regretted it. My second rule is never drink while playing.

And again another one saying you should NEVER feel stress playing poker (maybe the last hand all in in heads up is ok); otherwise you're playing with money you shouldn't be playing with. And KevinLee; bin there doen that too. :-(

It depends on my bankroll. If I'm putting honestly more than 10% of the bankroll into a single tournament, then I'm going to feel a lot of pressure and be slightly uncomfortable. 10% I can usually manage but anything more can become stressful.

As the other members say when you play a tournament that exceeds your bankroll you are stressed, it has happened to me when I have won tickets to $ 50 tournaments with only $ 3 in sit ang go and it is stressful to play them

the one that commits 50% of my bankroll, has already played buy in of 100 dollars, having only 200 dollars in box .. the psychological one is shaken too! I played to feel the adrenaline. I would not do that today.

I prefer MTT tournaments.
And I play in tournaments whose price is comfortable for me.
So I do not get stress and it іs great.

I would stress if i played in a tournament with a buy in of 5% or more of my total bankroll.

buyins don't cause me stress only bad beats do poker is poker no matter what level you are playing at.

but saying that i never go above 20% of my bankroll because one cash in a tourney like that can usually double or triple my bankroll.

I also work fulltime which means I'm comfortable being able to tp up every month.

Oh that's interesting ! I never really thought about those chances. All those proplayers seems to win tournament after tournament. That really reassures me

. To the topic: When I play tournaments with a low buy in I play more lose. Maybe because in my thoughts I say to myselfe: ah, if you loose...play the next one. So for me it's better and more fun to play higher (affordable) buy-ins .

I am going to be completely honest here....
sometimes just hitting that freeroll registration button is cost enough to start the stress process. freerolls drive me crazy.

Having to fold, fold, fold hands that could see the flop and win on the flop in a cash ring game with a min-call,
just because 2 or 3 people decide to go allin because the entry was free....with connectors or K-8, or A 2 suited.......drives me nuts at times.

Sometimes it doesn't. But it can start that stress thing.
Just hitting that free registration button can do it for me.

So I take one of those special candies that you can't roll and smoke that I have for backpain and pop it in my mouth...and the realm is gooooooodddd.....and I just start going allin with the rest of them with my 9 3 offsuit.

As mentioned by other members bankroll management is the key i think. If you are risking too much of your bankroll in a single event it is normal to become nervous. This is much more important than the absolute value of the buyin. If somebody pays 5$ buyin with 100$ bankroll he should be as comfortable as someone paying 50$ buyin with 1000$ bankroll and both should be much more relaxed than somebody paying 25$ buyin with 50$ bankroll.

I sometimes take shots outside my bankroll and they can become stressful when playing for more money than I am use to.

I feel tense when I play cash games at big bets, when I play small bets I play relaxed, and I also feel the tension when I play in an expensive tournament, but for me it takes patience and I'm not nervous if I want to win!
