I said it earlier and will repeat it now. It is better to master the theory in a cash game. And you need to switch to tournaments when you are already at a good level

I think that if you're successful in one then you're gonna be successful in the other, since they both are all about making +EV decisions. The only difference is probably knowing how much risk you can take at a certain point in the tournament, vs cash games, where +EV is still +EV so you should take it no matter what. I don't think it's the case that one of them is better than the other.

There is no way really to compare the two, I find I will play a cash game totally different from a tournament in that if you decide to play a hand, any hand in a cash game, you have to raise pre-flop, there is no way I would simply call, you have to reduce the field from the word go, and the only way to do that is to show aggression.
I have on many occasions raised with absolute garbage pre-flop if I feel that the small and big blinds are playing too tight and I am on the button.
If you can portray yourself to be an aggressive player right from the start, you can own the table and make more moves on some of the players, the best way to do this is to watch the table intently before you sit down and identify the weaker and stronger players before you start to play and push the weakest around, while you are avoiding getting into the action with the strongest.
In a tournament you cannot sit and watch until you decide who and how to play as this will cost you blinds and ultimately the game, but you do have to be cautious to start with, in order to pick up important information from other players.

Tournaments are quite responsible, in cash games the player can go in and out as many times as he wants , but also can lose a lot of money for no time.

I agree with you Tihomir, in cash you can quickly lose what you have accumulated for some time, this is because regardless of the number of players and playing your hand will be charged (small and big blind), in tournaments there will be ups and downs with tendency to recover your losses, just be patient and wait for good hands.

WOW I think cash players are better, but who makes a better transition, thats tuff to say. I would think a cash player, they have a more discipline and are not prone to stupid All-In calls.

A lot is discussed here about loosing money quick in cashgames. Right, but you can win money also as fast. What takes hours in MTT is done at a cashtable in minutes. Bankrollmanagement is much more important at cash. I play both but prefer cash, because I am independent of time. Unfortunately there are no cash freerolls and in summary you pay a lot of rake. The question who is a better player ? Who is a better runner ? Usain Bolt or Eluid Kipchoge? both worldrecord holders...

As some have said quite different games and how are you ranking them by buyin? I think its easier to kind of rank players that consistently win big MTT's and you do not have different stages of the tourney in a cash game. Obviously you have to be skilled at either to consistently make profit.

Personally for me I find MTT's more of a challenge. I like the goal to try and win, not just make profit. But that does not make me better than a cash player making profit necessarily but I think it's more of a competition in a tournament than focusing just on profit.

I play tournament in the beginning then cash game.

I think one want play well in cash game should have enough bankroll, otherwise it's easy to fold under the pressure of keeping on raise stacks.

hello.in my opinion, players in tournaments are more accurate in the game, if we are talking about long distances.for example, there are a lot of short tournaments on 888, where the players resemble the players in the cache. I do not understand why to do tournaments with an increase in ante in one minute,in two and three.this clearly spoils the discipline of many beginners and forces more experienced players to play roulette.it is better to have fewer tournaments,but more high-quality ones, where the player will be able to open up, and not go all in all the time.

Hello everybody. I believe that an experienced player can play effectively by moving from a tournament to a cash game or vice versa. He has developed a skill, so it is not difficult to switch.

I believe that they are different styles where each player in his specialty, whether for money or in tournaments, will always do well. For me, before being one better or worse than the other, they are just players with different styles of poker strategies.
