Been playing some omaha hi/lo limit lately. about 5K hands and I got to say that although it is a really really small sample, this has to be the easiest game online. I mean I'm by no means great at the game but the play is so bad.

I mean playing hands like A899 single suit and stuff like that makes this game extremely profitable. In a 6 max game, you have 3 out of 6 people with VPIP over 50%, 2 people over 40%, 1 nit and me. Thats how the majority of the tables break down.

The only downside is that there are not that many games running at all time. So to get like 6 or 9 good games going I need to mix with both 6 and 9 max which can from time to time complicate things.

I usually fold that hand pf unless I'm opening the btn, I don't like getting in situations where it's very likely if the flop hits me I'll be splitting the pot or drawing to a non-nut hand.

Completely agree that the micro O8 games are soft - a lot of it I think is because players choose poor hands to play preflop, draw to non-nut hands frequently, call down w non-nut hands frequently, and don't realize when they're getting freerolled or quartered (I'm playing PLO8 more than limit O8, getting quartered is a much bigger problem in PL than limit). I've been called a donkey and worse several times for potting the turn w a nut one way or the other and a weak draw to the other nut and rivering the other nut - like I'm supposed to be polite or something... :joyman:

I agree that the Omaha H/L tables are filled with terrible players. I find that I have been playing nitty lately, mainly due to bad players making lots of draws on the river. I started out making good profit, but it seems that it is getting harder to push out players that have weak draws. I got my hands on an Omaha odds calculator, so that should help.

Also, maniacs sit down and start pot raising every hand and every street. Eventually I can take them down, but I usually take a small hit in the process due to split pots and such.

No, actually, it doesn't. The idea is that you want them to call incorrectly on the turn to try to river that weak 8 card straight draw, weak bare flush draw, or drawing to counterfeit your low - if they understood pot odds and you priced them out, they would fold correctly and you wouldn't get the value of "pot odds ignorance", one of the keys to winning.

If they do call consistently, you will show a profit in the long run - though in the short run you'll end up losing when they hit. I'm playing very microstakes right now, very few players (I think) are bluffing the river at 10nl and less if you show strength through the turn, so you need to fold when they play back at you and the board says they rivered something (otherwise they're potentially getting the correct implied odds to call your turn bet) - but assuming they call the turn and miss on the river most of the time (which will be the case), you will most of the time get value from that turn bet and their turn call.

Of course, when they do hit, you need to have a ritual of some sort to cleanse the soul - swearing works for me.

I may simply be running good the last couple of days, but I think it's more likely that I simply have to spend a whole lot more time thinking at Omaha than I did at NLHE...

The catch is that since I'm a nit at Omaha just like I was at NLHE, I fold the vast majority of my hands (around 80%), so I feel kinda silly staring at the screen waiting for the next hand to get dealt. In addition, while I was playing 3K hands a day at NLHE without breaking a sweat, playing 500 hands a day 2tabling PLO is a real accomplishment - I'm taking a huge hit to the VPP's since I'm at micro and my volume is way down...

80% seems a little extreme for 6 max PLO. I recall seeing 40% of flops, but then most were just limped around at the levels that I was playing.

I think having a vpip of 20 is a bit too low but 40 is too high

Seem to coming off my hot streak now. Have had several badbeats and suckouts today, but have only lost money in rake so not too disheartening.

Losing AA to JQo and AQs to Q5 does hurt though.

It's actually a pretty interesting question to consider and something that I never seem to get a grasp of when I'm playing PLO. I have a good idea of what a strong raise worth hand is pre-flop, however, I tend to struggle with what sort of hands are worthy of calling raises
