Good afternoon guys, all right?

I noticed that a lot of people are still biased when they hear the word “poker”.

Some people think it's just gambling, addiction, or casino... and those who play seriously know how much study, discipline, and emotional control are involved. Not to mention individual pressure.

And I'll be honest: sometimes I just avoid saying that I play poker so I don't have to hear random judgment. Or having to explain something that not everyone understands.

Especially for those who have never opened a solver in their lives 🤡😂.

But at the same time... when a person understands the game better, the view changes completely. 👀 and even the conversation.

Do they openly say that they play poker or do they prefer to avoid commenting?

Nope don't hide it at all and don't give a shit what the avg person thinks of it. My parents didn't like it too much when they first found found out but by then I had 3-4 years of proof I was a winning player. The wife kinda gave me a look back when we were first dating and I told her but by then I had way more then a decade of proof I was a winning player and not playing over my head. Even then it was still a very long night(discussion) cause she did have plenty of concerns. Long story short we've been happily married now 10+ years never fight about poker or really anything.

I totally avoid say that I play poker, just because I don't want to be in that explaining everything situation.
My family know that I play sometimes and even that I've taken coaching classes.
They know that I'm responsible and they've never judged me.

When I first retired, I told people I played online poker to supplement my income. I said I would go in the other room when a tournament starts. The man of the house, said no, I can sit at the table and eat dinner at the table with the family and still play my poker tournament. I thought that was so cool.

I've never hidden that I play poker, if I see that someone is really interested, I'm very happy to talk to them about poker.
If I see that they can't be convinced, I don't force it.
Most people are convinced that I made a living from this for 10 years, and I'm still a winner today, even though I don't deal with the learning part anymore.

No, but I do have to explain that it’s not all luck.

I have a friend who is a music minister at a church, and he can’t play tournaments that would trigger a Hendon Mob score, so when he plays it is usually a cash game at a casino he would not likely be seen at.

Never experienced negativity over my poker playing...I am retired and spend a few hours almost every day playing poker...those who are biased against poker are entitled to their small-minded opinions.

I openly talk about it whenever it comes up which isn't often.
Judgement? Yes from some few in the extended family but generally supportive.
My father even stakes me sometimes, I never ask but he just writes me " Just send you some for tournaments" which is awfully nice

My fiancée takes it serious that this is an important hobby for me. And she knows she revieves goodies from time to time when I withdraw winnings 😁

I usually just say I play poker without going into too much detail, and I’ve definitely noticed that reactions depend a lot on the person’s understanding of the game. Some people immediately assume it’s just gambling, while others get curious once you explain the strategy and skill side. I’ve had a few moments of mild judgment or misunderstanding, but nothing major it’s more that people simplify it because they don’t know the depth behind it. Over time I’ve learned not to push too hard to “defend” poker, and instead just let results and calm explanations speak for themselves when it comes up.

Everyone knows I have no life anymore, that everything for me revolves around poker. I generally don't hide anything from anyone. Smoking marijuana here in Brazil is still a crime, so I advise anyone who smokes to do so in secret.

Hahah my wife thinks it's an addiction, that's one of the reasons I haven't been to a face-to-face poker house yet. For now only playing mtt online. As for the rest of the people, I care little about their opinion.
