I don't hide the fact that I play poker; my family and friends know it, but I don't talk to them about it because I know they might get bored if I do.

Poker is an additional source of income!!! My family knows but does not understand!!! I play most freerolls, so my earnings are small!!! But still nice when you are unemployed and earn small amounts!!!

It depends a lot on the cultural environment. In some countries, poker is more normalized as a skill-based game (with a huge component of mathematics, statistics, emotional control, and discipline); in others, it is still seen almost exclusively as gambling.

I don’t really hide that I play poker, but I also don’t advertise it much either. Most people hear “poker” and immediately think gambling instead of strategy, discipline, bankroll management, and decision making. If someone asks, I’ll talk about it because I enjoy the game. But I’m not bringing it up at every opportunity either.

Funny enough, the people who react the most are usually people who’ve never played seriously. The ones who actually play tend to understand there’s a lot more to it than just cards and luck.

For me, it’s simple: poker is part of my personal life, and I don’t feel the need to share every detail with everyone. Not because I’m ashamed of it, but because some people judge things they don’t understand. So sometimes it’s just easier to keep it private 😄

I really liked the “let the results speak for themselves” part. I think that when a person sees responsibility and control, the vision changes a lot. It's really cool to see that poker was never a problem in your relationship, this speaks volumes about maturity on and off the tables 👏

I think that happens to a lot of people 😂. Sometimes people even respect poker but can't bear to hear hand analysis, bad beat and ICM for 40 minutes straight kkkkk

Kkkkkkkkkkk that was good 😂. In the end, everyone ends up hiding some part of life to avoid infinite explanations. What you want to get on is easy on that list.

I totally agree with that. Those who have never studied or played seriously usually reduce everything to luck. On the other hand, those who know the game at all understand how much discipline and control there is behind decisions.

I totally agree. The cultural context weighs heavily on the way poker is viewed. In some places it's treated almost like a mental sport... in others, there's still a lot of prejudice and misinformation

Why would I hide it? Do you think that playing poker is something to be ashamed of? For over sixty years now I've never made it a secret that I enjoy shooting, though some people would look at that as something shameful. The way I have always looked at it is maybe if they see me, someone who isn't much different from them, as a shooter and poker player that they might change their opinions of those things. Sort of like being an ambassador for shooting and playing poker.
