Do you believe in continuous good luck or bad luck runs in poker?

Not really, it can be a streaky game when much of a game ends up being decided by flips, so while anyone can win an individual game or even POTM, I don't believe the table at the end the season lies.

Low tide and high tide always come, both in our daily lives and in the long run! Let's go surfing! 🏄‍♀️🏄‍♂️

I'm not sure what to think on this,I've been told you never walk away from the table when you're on a hot streak and then they change the dealer which changes everything 😕. So i'm going to say it's all about the cards or may it's your seat 😊 but i'm not a superatitious person 😏. Because i'll only sit at a table if the seat 3 place to the right of the dealer is open 🤣🤣🤣.

In poker, there are great streaks that last for weeks or even months, just as there are losing streaks—it’s all part of the game. What you need to focus on is the play itself and your strategy; the results don't matter, because sooner or later, they will come.

hi folks,

in my opinion there are cold and hot streaks in pokergame. Of course it is always a thing between your personal game and the dynamic of game/card luck - it is really possible to play good and solid like a pro but you are still loosing money in cash games or dont get through the bubble in tournaments.
This is always a difficult way to analyse the bright spectrum of poker because it is you, the game/cards and your opponents - so 3 types you have to handle isnt so easy.

I believe in the RNG and I’ve tested it for a long time, especially on the river! And many times I was right about what I thought would show up on the river! That’s pure bad luck!

Elon Musk said in an interview I saw recently that there is only a one-in-billions chance that we aren't living in a simulation right now. And as for the creator of this simulation assigning good or bad luck to this person or that—who’s to say they didn't? Once we accept that we’re in a simulation, anything—no matter how absurd—really could be possible.

Do you believe in hot streaks/cold streaks in your poker game? Or is it just another example of how flawed our human perception is? I definitely feel that I have periods when I'm playing better or playing worse, but I think that is a "me" thing, and not some blessing/curse of a hot/cold deck that is outside of my own control. What do you think?

There is a time for everything: a time to smile and to cry, to win and to lose, to live and to die. It happens.

Not only during winning streaks, but also when achieving good results, it's important to maintain a positive attitude.

I have the tendency to make worse decisions when running bad. Not just at the table, but also bankroll management. It is nowhere near as bad as it used to be, but I may still find myself registering to a tourney slightly out of bankroll after I just busted one, knowing that I am too tired or tilted to play! I feel like I often create my own misfortune...

Probably, in the game, just like in life, there’s a white stripe and a black stripe.

I believe there are good and bad streaks in the game. Top players talk about this in their blogs.

I believe winning and losing streaks are a natural part of poker variance. Over the short term, luck can have a significant impact, but over the long run, consistent decision-making, discipline, and solid strategy are what determine a player's success.

I believe in variance, but not in the idea that after a certain number of bad results, poker “owes” you a win. A coin that has landed on heads five times in a row is no closer to having to land on tails.
The same goes for poker.
So I'd say that “hot/cold hands” exist as a player's experience and feeling, but not as some force that predicts what will happen in the next hand.

OYes, I believe so, sometimes even when you do everything right, things still go wrong in the end, haha.

I'm sure there are things that are beyond my control. I have different days, just like you. So I just play and try to enjoy the process regardless of the results.

Yes I believe in sustained streaks of good or bad luck in poker, and I’ve experienced both on several occasions.
Especially when playing MTTs, involves high variance! To realize your expected profit might require a massive sample size of 1,000 or 2,000 games, and within that timeframe, you inevitably face ups and downs. There are days or weeks when everything seems to be going perfectly, followed by periods where you stop winning coin flips and run into more "coolers." The tide can turn against you for days, weeks, or even months until you manage to overcome the slump and get back on a positive track.
If even a profitable professional player can go through periods without winnings, or even suffer losses, just imagine the situation for amateur or semi-professional players.
If we want to play poker consistently, we absolutely must be prepared for those negative streaks, perhaps even more so than the positive ones. Because after a good run can easily turn into a disaster if a player decides to move up in stakes prematurely due to their success, only to end up in a major downswing..

Yes, I believe winning and losing streaks happen in poker because of variance. You can run incredibly hot or cold for long periods, even while making the correct decisions. However, in the long run, skill, discipline, and solid bankroll management matter far more than temporary luck. The key is to stay consistent and avoid changing your strategy based only on short-term results.

Yes, I believe both winning and losing streaks are a natural part of poker because of variance. You can make all the right decisions and still lose for a while, or play average and run incredibly well. That's why I try not to judge my game by short-term results. Instead, I focus on making the best decisions, staying disciplined, and trusting that good play will pay off over the long run.

I think I definitely have good and bad streaks but I think it's just variance. I do think I play better on some days than others but I think variance is always there whether or not I am playing well.

I think that long term the variance will mostly even out but the luck factor is more getting lucky in your big spot or not....U dont care about winninf 22 vs AA on a 20$ freeroll but when ur on a ft for 50 k and have ur goood run theyre thast where it matters

I think hot and cold streaks are real, but not always for the reason we think. There is obviously short-term variance, where you can run incredibly well or horribly despite making the same decisions. But I also believe our own performance changes over time. When I’m confident, rested and focused, I probably make better decisions and notice more opportunities, which can feel like a “hot streak.” When I’m tired, frustrated or chasing losses, the opposite happens and suddenly everything feels cursed. So I separate the two: the cards are random, but my decisions and mindset aren’t. I don’t believe in being “blessed” or “cursed” by the deck, and I try not to let a winning or losing streak influence how I play the next hand.
