Aren't you supposed to be a guide around here???

Stop being so results oriented. If there is a problem with your game CC can help you fix it. If it's just standard stuff (from the hands you posted on your blog this looks to be the case) taking a break is fine but it's really no different than playing.

PS - already side-stepping my "not going to post here for a while" lol ... I used to joke who would be the worst commander if the video game "Command and Conquer" was real and I thought of David Arquette. So I call him "Commander David Arquette" because he will guide you ... to slaughter! I kind of feel like the Commander David Arquette of poker, but the good news is I think I helped Shrog today during our brief sweat session.

I took a long walk with my dog. I thought about my options right now. I thought about the "cooler vs. me playing bad" debate in my head. I then thought about my options, holisitically. Basically it boils down to:

1. Take out $4k, pay off a lot of debts, take a vacation, and keep the $1.4k left in my bankroll and just grind 50nl at pokerstars or some other site with rakeback.

2. Take a few days off, don't make rash decisions, and re-evaluate poker/life/universe.

3. Get the tilt and negativity out of my head. Grab my cahones and play through it. Do what I can to keep a level head. Play 50nl until I get confidence back, analyze my game. Get a few people to sweat my sessions, get back to pure basic nit play and open up the game gradually from there.

Anyways to be 100% honest I think #2 is the best option. Clearly I am running bad AND making bad decisions (I think it's a 75%-25% split in favor of coolers). It's a lethal combination.

I hope in 2 months I can read this post and laugh but then I think ... wow I can really do a lot with $4k. So I'll continue to evaluate the options. Clearly the happiest ending would be to stick with it and start winning consistantly again at 100nl... but at this case I have to evaluate the likelihood of that scenario.

#2 is the best option imo,1 and 3 have there merrits but one of the best poker advice if heard was, Dont make drastic changes to your game or poker carrier during downswings.
Sure analysing you game during one is fine but making a big major change for possibly the wrong reason might end in disaster.

I was looking at your blog earlyer and it seemed to me you where just geting coolers and villains showing up with top of there range.
It sucks but u have to get over it because we both know your a good player but sometimes the poker gods just dont care and whant to test your resilience, and your not going to go fail there challenge now are u?

Good luck and what ever u decited hopefully thinks change for the better soon.

Thanks for the kind words man. Clearly I'm struggling with this low point. Nowhere to go but up! Yeah I haven't made any decisions and probably wont play for a little while. I don't have the heart to look at todays 100ish hands in HEM so that should be a real good indicator I have no business playing right now.

I agree this is definitely a challenge. Better players have suffered worse streaks at the same stakes, so I am no different. I understand the global perspective.

Again ty for the kind words I really needed to hear em. I hate bitching about downswings, but I can't afford $650/hr lessons with Jared so I use my friends here. Thanks Sindri.

And I might start a debate thread about the C&C commander.

Hang in there Ice! I know we haven't talked much directly but you seem like a cool guy.

Remind yourself you aren't the only one to go through swings like that, and you won't be the first to recover. The downswing I have recovered from personally was in the neighborhood of 20 BIs.. god that was no fun.

As far as your post above... I think #2 is the best, however I think taking a little of each may not be a bad approach either. Specifically, I think taking a few days or a week completely off from poker is often very beneficial mentally. Also, dropping down a limit even if just for a little while to rebuild some confidence works pretty well also.

I'd also say it's a good idea to sometimes spend a little of that hard earned bankroll on yourself... not *too* often but I'd think about it.

I don't think "grabbing your cahones and playing through it" is a great idea though.. You are right you need to get rid of the tilt and negativity and I'd do the stuff listed above in order to get rid of it!

Anyways... best of luck man. You'll be back before you know it.

Indeed, it's nice to converse with you. And I agree, I am a cool guy.

As a player who prides himself on steady play and a steady graph, dealing with this has been quite a challenge. IF this thing was at 20 buyins I would probably have set myself on fire and run naked to half-court of the Lakers game and died in Kobe's arms.

Yeah, the general consensus is to take a few days off and come back playing lower levels to regain my swagger.

I know, but I really was hoping to make steady money at 100nl and split the profits with the BR and slowly creep up to 200nl.

Yeah, time to Cowboy-Up as Sawyer would say. Thanks again, I really appreciate your response, it means a lot.

^ Yeah I checked... mine was actually 19. I had already bought the gasoline, cigarette lighter and a ticket to the game though. The 20th one didn't happen so that was good.

Not really..but believe me I felt exactly the same way. I nearly withdrew everything and swore it off for good.

Losing 10 buy-ins is brutal, especially for a consistent player like you. I feel your pain.

Most definitely drop down to 50nl for a while. You can't play good poker without confidence and the easiest way to regain confidence is to drop down to a level where you have a much bigger edge over the competition. BTW, I just did drop down from 200nl to 100nl for exactly the same reason, and it works great.

Whether you withdraw money or not should really be more a non poker decision. If you need the money in real life, take it, otherwise, leave it in your bankroll. I'm pretty sure you can either crush 50nl or beat 100nl and withdrawing money would essentially be a delay of a few month in your progression through the stakes. It's not that big a deal in the end.

Well hopefully one of the 10 IMs is a sponsorship deal :). Congrats though, hopefully it's just a taste of what's to come in a bigger one.

I don't know why stars loves giving us CC players the micro wins! I remember my first MTT 1st place was the 10cent 360 player game, was sooo happy yet "Damn, is that all I won?"

Massive congrats to you Kleitches and as Zach said, you've done it now, the monkeys off your back. This should and will do massive things for your own confidence and it definitely is a sign of bigger wins too come.

Fantastic effort mate, GL in the next ones

Could you not combine these together??

IMO there isnt anything wrong with your game its your mental state, your taking a load of beats by the look of your blog and your confidence is at rock bottom. Your on a downswing for a start which naturally makes you more results orientated so BI's mean more to you. Just drop to 50NL for a few days make a plan and stick to it E.G. going to grind 50nl for the next few days, 1k hands per day and then see how I run there. I know its a small sample but its a change, something different which is what you need from just dropping buy ins at 100NL.
Is there any shame in dropping down to 50NL? Grind BR, confidence back up and then hit 100nl when refreshed?

GL buddy and hope things turn around man!

Well if nothing else, Ice, at least you're still posting and that's a good thing.
Go reread the 1st section of Elements of Poker. Remind yourself that it's not as bad as you think and then stop thinking.

Ice, know this: You are an extremely solid player. Also, look what you've done in terms of shaping noobies into becoming a successful player. All of the suggestions by members here are great. Do whatever you need to do to change your mental state, even if it's more time off than you'd like. You are a winnng player. Look at your BR from where it was a year ago.

Phil Hellmuth is so deluded when it comes to online poker. He played Hoss_TBF at teh limit pokers on UB, unaware that Hoss is the best HULHE player in the world

Hoss then posted the chat/comments http://hoss-tbf.livejournal.com/18125.html

PHILHELLMUTH: plqys every single pot
PHILHELLMUTH: and pays off like a slot machine
TURNTHECAROFF: lolololol

Well I slept on it and decided to play 50nl until things start feeling good and happy again. I went through all the hands where I lost a stack this past week during the four-figure slide ...

Bad Play : 2 (one of them was 50-50 equity, the other was 76% equity on his range but probably a fold)

Cooler : 7

I guess I should "feel better" about the wide discrepancy between coolers and bad hands but I guess the wounds are too fresh. Anyways, that's the plan.
