When playing online, I'm always searching and listening to new music to work into my DJ sets. I've discovered quite a bit of new dance floor bangers while playing online lately. At brick and mortar poker, I never listen to music as I like to devote my focus to getting a read on players.

I can get down with background type music, instrumental or the radio, at any given time playing cards. It can prevent boredom, get you comfortable at the table so you don't make bad / hasty decisions.

Sometimes if I need some inspiration or motivation to boost my brain activity, I could choose to play some of my favorite songs, but just for a boost. I don't want to be clicking elsewhere to change songs or a station, so I rather the music coming from the TV or radio.

I believe music can both influence your poker gameplay in a bad and good way. Some songs will give you more energy, while others will make you dream. You have to be able to ignore the music so it doesn't distract you. I used to play with music constantly, now I only almost play without it. I notice I play better when I take the time to focus on my table, instead of just clicking something when the table's screen pops up.

You should decide for yourself whether or not you like to play with music or without, and especially which genre you'll be listening to.
