Opinion on girls playing poker

btw my FT avatar is that white girl, just trying to look so new and inexpierenced lol. It makes my day when some donk starts swearing and saying things about "that stupid b***h"

lots of my poker buddies are girls and i found them to be really patient and places mostly ITM on our forum games... especially the ones with those sexy avatars, can really distract others' play!

imagine what will happen if avatars can move... ;-)

I tend to having a problem reading women in live games, then again I tend to have issues reading women away from the tables as well.

i played cards with my mom growing up so i have no problem with playing with women

I think girls can be just as good at poker as guys. Most girls play differently than most guys of course. Their emotions are wired differently from each other so their playing styles are different thats all. Different styles is all, same level of play though.

I remember the first time I took my wife (then girlfriend) to a bubbys house for our weekly game. She cleaned up. She grew up like me playing poker with her grandpa.
I have seen alot of good female poker players, but also alot that where scared of raises for some reason. I dont know if it is a girl thing, or if I just notice it more when it is a girl doing it. Probably the later.

How about 'Annette_15' for starters, lol. How can you even say this comment?? Okay.. so you've seen some players on TV and read about them (heard interviews, stuff on the internet, perhaps met a bunch of them), BUT how could you even begin to say that women don't go into great detail to study the game?? Have you met and surveyed the probably millions of them in the world?

I've got to say that this comment here is ridiculous in my opinion. What is your statement based upon in regards to TiffanyMichelle? A segment on TV of the wsop ME? TV has to be entertaining.. and tv poker has to be set up to deal to the masses (yes.. the uneducated poker folks.. the ones who find a thrill in just seeing cards roll off the deck, the miracle one-outers etc.,.. as opposed to the why behind their plays). I happen to KNOW that Tiffany's coverage was actually very unfair... what appeared to be a 15sec. wait prior to her calling 'clock' on an opponent (yes.. when she wasn't even in the hand) was actually more like 15mins. AND blinds were going up so it was negatively affecting her chances. Sure it came off really bad over the TV broadcast. Can ya imagine for a second that they did that on purpose? It's entertaining.... create a 'villain' of sorts.

I met Tiffany at a live event and had the fortunate oppurtunity of playing at her table and to tell you the honest truth, she was probably the friendliest and most personable poker pro on that entire table (and there were many of them, including the likes of Dennis Phillips, Brad Booth, Brian Devonshire, Daniel Negreanu, Maria Ho, and others). Tiffany actually stood out amongst the others as a friendly, down-to-earth person. I don't think her game is that great but that's besides the point.

I'm quite surprised by many of the comments on this thread. I mean come on.. pleazz... some of you guys get upset if a woman beats you on the tables??? What difference does it make? It sounds kind of backward-ass and pathetic if you ask me (but who's asking me, lol). Where y'aaallll from.. somewhere in the Twilight Zone?.. back in the Dark Ages?
To all those who feel that way, I hope you get your asses kicked and good by the next woman you meet on your poker table.

I think that it is great that women play poker.... If you tell my wife you don't think she should play, she would kick your ass!! both physically and in poker!!

women and poker...women and strip poker...someones not getting any

I've played about 99.5% of my poker online, and I usually keep the avatars, chat, and dealer chat off. Funny I've never really thought of this before, but I don't think the sex of the player has ever once entered my thought process.

I will share some observations: It seems that women's perceived strengths against men are actually men's weaknesses, ie: being over aggressive, tiliting easily, and being too stubborn to lose to a woman. While there are many very good women poker players out there this might explain why a very small handful of women have risen to the position of world class player. Please don't take that the wrong way ladies, but once you get to the upper echelon of poker players, male or female, those perceived strengths are non-existant.

I also have to say that I have noticed, mainly in live play, that a lot of women cannot stand to be bluffed by a man.

But does having period affect your playing? a lot, a little, none? just wondering...cause it could be useful if i am at casino and see lady go to bathroom with purse.

I love having women at the poker table. First of all, they are great to look at.....but more importantly, they are typically really good players. If you underestimate anyone at the poker table you will soon be out of chips. And I think any guy that has dated a woman knows how sneaky and hard to read they can be. So if there is a woman at your table......be very, very careful.

For all poker players one thing is true, if you're good enough to take other players money, you're good enough to play poker. It's the same for both genders.

This whole thread puts me on tilt. Some really dumb comments (sorry, but it's true).

No woman is ever going to go to the bathroom in a public place and leave her purse. Ever. That would be like a man leaving his wallet at the table. So there goes that theory.

yeah, i believe female sharks are also GREAT poker players. My favorite is Annie Duke. Being female actually does help, on the television show, i have seen people just smooth call and let the girls survive, when they had a full boat to the woman's flush. They are just being nice, and I think that gives girls a little advantage. I also believe that guys do not want to lose to women, so they try not to bluff and risk their chips. More and more girls i have been seeing playing poker on television and women are going far in the main event, which is extremely challenging since their are thousands of players in that event. Women I believe will never be as good as men, but they are not too far behind.

Anyone can be good or bad regardless of gender, it's all about how much experience they have. Having said that, I have a weekly home game and sometimes if we need a player or two one of my buddies will bring their wife/girlfriend and one in particular has played quite a bit with us and you can rarely get this chick to fold. She knows how to play but ALWAYS plays junk and seems to catch cards. We nicknamed her "full house" because she caught three fullhouses in one tourney and ended up winning it.

There are alot of good female poker players online, alomg with alot of bad ones. You never know for sure, you can't just go by the avatar. On the Cake network you can change your avatar and screen name at will. I got an email from my son the other night saying "I just love being a girl!!!" He thinks he does better when players think he's a dumb broad.

Personally, I am more intimidated by a reraise from a girl than from a guy.

OK... well when my gf and I go to casino she doesn't bring her purse just puts money in back pocket, maybe i just assumed this was the case for all girls.? And that is besides the point, i just want to know if it affects your playing at all. Just looking for an edge against you girls, since i don't seem to do too good against them... . And yes kinda stupid question but one i would like answered regardless. If not then, well i will never know. I also play pub poker so it would come in handy there as well....really simple question though. yes or no? sorry again if i sound ignorant but, well, i guess i am on that subject.

I plan on beating anyone i play with regardless of gender, its all situational.

i like it because it gives me something to look at while playing. girls playing poker is extremely sexy
