phil hellmuth is one of the best in the world in my opinion. i seen him lay down AK on a flop of K rag rag and the guy had aces , sick. however the best poker players make bad folds sometimes because they r willing to fold big hands. u tell phil hes a bad player hell just shake his 11 bracelets and most wsop cashes lol.
didnt say he wasnt good, just that he is losing followers, yea its great to be king but if you have no follows you are nothing

im not a great fan of phil hellmuth but to say that he is a bad player is just plain wrong and disrespectful. sure i think he's a whiny bitch and should shut his mouth when he loses but you have to admit, even begrudgningly that for someone to win 11 bracelets even in relatively small fields you have to know what you're doing. sure it was a laughable fold but if the guy was holding kings or aces you guys would be raving about what an incredible fold it was. however, i do think the cameras had an effect. phil wanted to try and make a sick laydown for everyone to see but instead ended up looking like a donk. hey it happens to all of us its just ont broadcast on national tv (and youtube haha)

In many ways this is a bad fold because of the structure of the format. If they were playing to move up it could be argued it wasn't a bad fold. However with the structure of the format he needed to push it in the middle. Although his thinking could be that he may have AA, AK, KK and than I am dominated against that hand range. Also that he did not want to take a coin flip against AK. Even so he should've pushed because it was a winner take all, unless he felt he could have outplayed the field later and salvage a win. Although I believe it would have been difficult because there is only one true prize. So folding the Queens there was a bad play because it was winner take all. That was his best shot at taking this tourney down.

Phil Hellmuth is an idiot.

Yes he has 11 bracelets and I'll give him props for that fact, but he's still an idiot for the way that he acts and treats other players, especially the way he berates and mistreats amateur players. Very unprofessional.

Hellmuth seems to think that he is going to intimidate the amateur players into playing the way that he wants them to play.

He needs to get over himself, because he gets way out of line sometimes. :banghead:

Then whenever he loses a pot, he goes crying and whining to his wife at the rails who seems to be dreading to attend his apperances nowadays.

Supposedly she is a psychiatrist, maybe she should prescribe her husband a little something to chill his ego driven brain out. :nurse:

So Guy Laliberte is better than Hellmuth?

Guy may not be as good but, I don't think he cares. He simply couldn't spend the interest on what he's got in the bank. Looking for some new kicks and giggles IMO.

Very true, but Guy Laliberte is also a pretty damn good high stakes cash game player i.m.o. He can hold his own. That big bankroll of his sure doesn't hurt matters either though.

Folding QQ does not make Phil a bad player. Although I said it was a bad fold this shows that Phil is a good player. Mainly because he can lay down QQ preflop. Although this time he was very wrong but good players can lay hands down. Bad players cannot.

Hahahaha.
The only reason he has so many bracelets is because he never misses 1 tournament (thats what i heard). Like he has no life. I don't know if he needs to be respected: he needs to quit his whinning when he looses, and stop being so full of himself when he wins. But in general he CAN play good, but he just overACTS. "I'm the best player in the world blablabla".

Phil is A great player, he would be even better with duct tape over his mouth, or maybe a pacifier in his mouth.

I have to agree with you. My girlfriend and I like to call him Mr. A**hole. I understand why he has his little rant here and there. Sometimes people play hands that nobody such play and get lucky. Other times he whines like a little kid for no reason.

If you think this guy is bad when you see him on TV go find him live somewhere there are no cameras. I saw him one night a few years back at Garden City in San Jose. His suited AK got beat by an offsuit J10. You can guess what happened. He tilted and started losing more money to bad hands and his rant went on for almost an hour until someone threatened to drag him outside and beat his ass.

It would have been really funny if it weren't so damn pathetic. Another great player reduced because he has no class and no control over his mouth.

1. For people asking about the Durrr thing, Phil actually accepted a series of HU matches after the NBC Heads-up Championship, but never backed it up.

2. This fold is absolutely atrocious. He has 15bb in a WTA event. If you hate money, then make this fold basically. Which is Phil actually. I don't think people actually understand how much Phil values being on camera over winning. There's tons of examples of him doing stuff like this just to prolong his exposure. Him raise/folding for half his stack when he was already the short stack at some final table comes to mind.

3. To call Phil a great player is laughable. To call him the best hold'em player in the world is even more laughable. He's a good tournament player that's good at exploiting fish, but no more than that. He's a legitimate fish in anything that isn't hold'em or in any cash game. Any winning 1kNL grinder would jump at the opportunity to sit at a table with him.

Terrible fold for this format. Helmuth is not nearly as good as he thinks he is. He got both his PAD titles with several suckouts in a row.

Phil is one of the best in the world. But no one is THE BEST. No Tiger Woods of poker. No one that wins every time.

I would say that he was one of the best during the early 90's. Now he is ok but still very good. I mean he did win the 64 heads up so he must be better than just exploiting fish. Anyway if you read Gus's book you will see he doesn't like going up agaisnt other pros. I mean who does? Your more than likely going to pass chips around and that is not a good way to win tournaments. Although you say he is a legitimate fish in anything that isnt holdem he has won very big seven card stud tournaments. So I won't call him a legitimate fish. I will say he is probably above average in those games.

I absolutely just hate the way Phil approaches poker. He thinks he so good and I laugh everytime he gets bluffed or outplayed and then says "All your chips will be mine at the end of the day." He is a fish in all of the cash games he plays in as the other pros eat him for lunch. He's a decent tourney player because he's good at exploiting fish but you put him in a deepstacked game against even average pros and he's outmatched.

As for the whole durrrr thing, anyone who knows anything about poker would know that durrrr would absolutely own Phil HU. I mean Phil won't play him for a reason. (He'd be taking WAY the worst of it) I just can't stand the way he looks down on durrrr who is 1000 times the player Phil is or ever was.

LOL, Phil's antics achieve exactly what they are designed to, press and word of mouth. Here this thread is weeks old and people are still talking about him even though he hasn't really won anything meaningful in quite a while. That is exactly what his sponsors want and that is where he is making a ton of money.

I think he is very over rated. I like when he gets mad at someone for making the same call he made 10 mins ago
