I think we have to differentiate...

between playing drunk and having a few drinks while you play...

Of course, also we have to take into consideration each individual and the types of games we are playing...

If I was playing for serious money relative to my bankroll, and in tournaments that could go on for many, many hours, I would be very concerned about drinking and playing.

As a recreational player and typically only playing in the evenings after work, and on weekends, I enjoy having a few drinks and playing poker. I rarely find that I make bad decisions due to drinking. Sure, I do make a few bad decisions here and there, but who doesn't? It never leads to playing bigger games than I typically play, and rarely leads to what I would consider, really bad decisions.

Funny Related Story: I rarely play live poker (maybe once a year on average), but the first time I played a Live poker game at a local casino, about 10 years ago, my gal, myself, her sister and her hubby all played in a $70 Buy-in tourney... I think we had 120-130 people in the tourney... I had to rush to barely make it for game time after work. Well, I was enjoying the game and having a "few beers"... but the game lasted for 6 plus hours as I made the Final Table and then some...

I have to admit, at that point I had passed over the "Sweet Spot" and was starting to have some difficulty playing my best game... thankfully, during a break We Negotiated a Chop at the Urinals and I made off with $1,500.

All Is Well That Ends Well, Best of Luck on The Felts All!

I have never played drunk, but I know that this will definitely not bring good luck, since sober brains are the most important thing in poker.

Poker is a sport, and sports and alcohol are not compatible :)

It is not a black or white issue...and the OP did ask drink a little or a lot.

It goes without saying a lot is a liability.

But a little can be a bonus as it is in life, much like taking a hit of a joint before playing. For some they relax and play in better frame of mind...which would be why millions upon millions indulge in such practices on a daily basis. Enhancing a dinner with wonderful company or decompressing after a stressful days work.

It's a question of moderation. If you are not the type who can drink in moderation then not a good idea. But it ain't poker specific. Sloppy drunk is sloppy drunk, period.

Já joguei e não recomendo

Já tive a experiência de jogar bebado e não recomendo, pois sua emoção fala mais alto que a razão e você joga toda mão confiante. Entrando em situações e cometendo erros que sóbrio vc n entraria.

When I drink, I end up loosening up more in my game too and I see that it helps me sometimes, but most of it gets in my way because I don't have a very strong foundation in poker theories. So I end up exposing myself more than necessary in situations that just aren't for me.

My only addiction is Poker, I don't know what the experience of drinking and playing would be, but I drink a lot of juice when I play, it's just not the same thing

If I'm drunk I don't play poker. This is my principle. When I'm drunk, I quickly lose patience, get nervous and always lose money. Playing drunk is irresponsible.

All things in moderation, including moderation. Personally, I have no issues drinking at the table (except when the waitress is slow). However, you have to know yourself and your limits. Pay attention, and when you find yourself making bad decisions, it is time to cash out.

If you want to lose money, you should certainly play drunk all the time. If it makes sense to just have fun, play drunk. But if you play drunk and think you're going to make money from poker, that's pure illusion.

I remember when I started playing online (late '08) I had stopped drinking liquor for probably 4 months, doctors orders; something about acid-re flux and possible polyps. Eventually I was okay to be able to enjoy a drink here and there so I decided to celebrate the upcoming new year w/some drinks. I was playing a lot at UB/AB and played a trny w/an awesome buzz. I can remember playing hands that I would normally just fold pf and bluffing on the river against 3 other players and winning the pot; I mean betting w/fricking air. Anywayz I made the FT and everyone there was phukd-up. We had a blast. I think it lasted 3 more hours. And that's how I played for the next 11 years. It was fun while it lasted and trust me I know how to get the most out of a buzz.
I have, since, been diagnosed w/diabetes so I quit drinking last X-mas. I'm right at 3 months sober. I play way more poker now and can remember all of it. I would never tell anybody not to drink or smoke or anything else... It's your body. Plus, I play poker so if you wanna drink and play some cards w/me then come on down, my friend.
I will give a little advice as far as playing drunk, try not to play PLO, just because it's so phuking fun . But if you do make sure it's micro stakes, lol. GL. :elefant:

Very interesting question. I play poker for the entertainment value more than the making money side of things, so having a few drinks while being entertained is what I do... occasionally I have had a few TOO many and I think my game suffers at that point.

As they say everything must be in moderation, if you are a novice player and feel that a little drunk you really stronger, then everything can be. But you can not get drunk 100%, foggy play the game like poker - impossible.

It is your money, time and decision to do as you wish while drinking. For me, haven't read anything positive regarding poker and drinking. Everything supports, being in a positive mood, well rested and mentally sharp. Besides, there are better ways to enjoy a good alcohol buzz than sitting a computer playing poker.

Playing poker under the influence of alcohol is probably one of the most important factors that lead to losing money in online poker.

No one will follow you and keep you away from the computer when you come home drunk, so just be prepared to lose what was given to you the hard way. Of course, there are times when you win some money while under the influence of alcohol, but in most cases drunken sessions end up ruining and reducing your bankroll.

Agree with all above who says it is a bad idea to play drunk.

That said, I do believe you can have a drink or two without it hurting your game (obv depending on your personal tolerance). For me it’s like when playing pinball: two beers you’re relaxed but focused and play great, three and you’re shit.

Be careful with alcohol.

Luckily i quit drinking a few years ago, but for sure it'd be bad for my play.
When drunk, too euphoric. Cannot be concentrated, cool, disciplined, patient. These are key elements in poker.
