Can Poker Be A Career ?

If you're earning enough than yes of course if not than start take it more seriously.

It can be a career. My son played poker professionally for two years and made well over a 100,000 dollars. It can't be a career for me because I am not that great at poker.

yes it can be a career if you have patience. But you can't always meet friends and relatives because of such a career.

I can only speak for online No limit Holdem but yes, if you have the skill to be a winning and profitable player, it absoloutely can. However, I think there are things that often aren't talked about when it comes to making a living from poker and it may not be as glamorous as many people think. The time tested quote holds true: "It's a hard way to make an easy living"

First off, regardless of what kind of poker you're playing: be it cash games or tournaments, one thing for certain is that to play professionally, you'll need nerves of steel, immense mental fortitude, and lots of patience and discipline. The reality is, that due to the variance involved in poker, even if you play well, you must be ready to constantly lose for up to 6 months or 100,000 hands at a time. You need the discipline to keep a cool head and make rational decisions even through these brutal downswings.

Second, most people who play for a living aren't living the glamorous life throwing around millions at the highest stakes, most are just grinding the game out 40+ hours a week usually multi-tabling at low-medium stakes and earning a decent salary of around 60k or less.

Finally, thanks to the poker boom and all the free resources available to everyone on the internet, the average poker player is significantly better at the game than a few years ago, and the average skill level will only continue to increase. This means that pros usually need to put in lots of hours, studying and practicing to optimize their game and stay ahead of their opponents.

I think these are the correct expectations to take in if you're looking to make a living off poker, at least at the start when most people are unlikely to afford a bankroll for anything higher than low-medium stakes. Of course, it's always possible you could get lucky and win a huge tournament prize or satelite into a bigger tournament, but you shouldn't rely on this.

All this being said, the great thing about playing poker for a living is that you are truly self-employed and there's no real limit to how much you can earn so long as you have the traits required as well as plenty of perseverance and skill.

Not to mention, it can be much easier to make a living from poker if you can find a way to make additional income away from the tables, this can mean writing a blog, making Youtube videos, streaming on Twitch, or selling some kind of product like a book or course.

You sure can make a career in poker. Just keep on playing ,and cash in tournaments you could be on your way. As long as you making money, 85 percent of the time sure can be a great career.

I think so, but for this you have to have a lot of dedication and study.

Of course it can be , i really want to turn the poker into the career ,now iam playing as a hobby but iam waiting for a huge win and then i will start Play at highrollers and try to keep poker as a good profit job. We will see what's gonna happen with it i cross my fingers and Hope its a real target to catch.

There are many people who play low stakes poker as a career, especially online if they live in countries with a lower cost of living. $200 a month is not that difficult to make for example in the $10 cash games if you play each day and multi-table.

Well if it could be considered a race but it is more like a hobby because the champions who managed to get very far in this type of sport are those who spent a lot of time, effort and a lot of money to achieve these levels, if it is a race but I see it as one of the most difficult to achieve excellent levels.
