Very awesome response. So many people want the reward but have no idea on the effort or finances it takes to get there. OP can have a job that pays his way to his dream of poker pro by starting out on paid On The Job training as a casino dealer unless OP relishes the idea of letting another family member for his dream.

For some people but not for me. Probably I don't have enough talent to play this game and tilt gets me sometimes even though it barelly affects my game. To be honest maybe 10-15 years ago yes you could go full time grind and make some good $$$ but now it feels like there are tryhards sitting at 0.01$/0.02$ waiting hours for a good hand.

But to truly succeed at this game we all love that's all it takes, I have periods where I follow both of those correctly and grind out a nice steady profit playing $1.50-$6 ABI's but then a series like WCOOP or FTOPS or OSS comes along and boom I'm playing 109s and 215s.

I have made a few big final tables and cashed for a few thousand but at the end of the day you can't go back to $low stakes MTTS after FT'ing a 215 in my mind.

So its only a matter of time until variance kicks in and humbles me, one day I'll learn the lesson and build my willpower up to the point of tranquillity where I no longer have to prove anything at those big games but hey I'm young and chasing a dream can you blame me?

For very disciplined and talented people it may be a career, but I'm not one of those people. I get so easily frustrated playing small stakes compared to my bankroll and quickly jump up levels to get some "kick" out of playing. I've tried many times but it just doesn't work for me. For me it's just better to think poker as a nice hobby but not a profession.

In general, I think yes. Building up your bankroll, gradually moving up the limits, playing first at low stakes, then at high stakes. There are also various events in the poker world, where to go and where to play.

Making Poker into a career, is not as easy as it looks, besides all the obvious buy-ins, you have to pay many hidden cost's, Travel expense's, Hotel bills, Meals, even Laundry bills because living out of a suitcase is not glamorous, also if you have a Wife and Kids at home you still have the household bills to pay.
This can consume a big part of your bankroll, before you start playing, it certainly never appealed to me. Playing local in Pubs and Clubs, also playing on-line is all I ever wanted to do, because my nearest Casino is somewhere around 100 miles away, and although I have made the journey a few times, it certainly is not a weekly event.
Poker is whatever you want it to be, for me it is a pleasurable pastime, a Hobby, and a lot of fun.

When the fun Stops, STOP!

Poker is a mathematics chance and if you have long to study this mathematics, it is quite possible to build a career of the tournament player, but then the hobby can turn into a routine work and then, regardless of your desire, you will need to play ... Play ... Play.

I think it can be a race. If there are poker professionals, they should have a title or diploma that identifies them if they have fulfilled the requirements in poker schools with their penmsus of studies, it is only necessary to place it academically valid by a public or private ministry of education, I don't know, maybe that already exists.

I think poker as a career is very time consuming to learn and play the game.
Building a bank roll can be very expensive and often can bankrupt you.
Pros seem to know when to hold them and when to fold them advantage will be in their favor. However everything said and done the luck of the cards may determine the winner.

Start out becoming rich and then start a poker career. But first, bury enough money for you and your wife and kids to live comfortably for the rest of your life. Then tell your wife where the money is buried so she can move it to another spot.
