I think its both. Micro tournaments include lots of gambling. High buy tournaments include more strategy. It depends of players.

Depends on how you play LOL
If you study a lot every day and replay your torneys at the end of the day to see how you played the hands, it is a lot more like strategy

Classic question. I think it's pretty clear that it is a skillful strategy game with an element of luck (therefore gambling).

Most recreational players believe it is a game of almost all luck because of their short term view. They have no concept of how long or how much variance can affect results.

If you're just mashing buttons, refusing to study strategy and improve your game or to even have a strategy at all, and chasing losses while blaming the software or the dealer then yes, you're gambling.

Poker is a competitive discipline, similar to chess with hidden cards. It requires emotional control, study, data analysis, and constant adaptation.
Correct decisions (ranges, probabilities, opponent reading, bankroll management, game theory) are what determine long-term success. Two players with different skill levels do not achieve the same results over thousands or millions of hands: the better player consistently comes out ahead.

It is strategy, until you reach to river and everything is ruined.

I don't consider myself much of a gambler so it is not about gambling for me at lest. I guess some people get something out of the gambling aspect, but gambling and money is not the core reason for me playing.

Long-term poker is strategy, a bad poker player may get lucky one day and win a tournament, but in the long term he will lose money because he doesn't study, because he doesn't know how and when to bet, what bet sizes, etc.
