At this moment it is populair because of the lockdowns worldwide. But when people can go to events, restaurants etc it will loose popularity.

It was relatively popular even before those events dude. Okay it would lose few players but it wont get 'unpopular'. Poker ain't going nowhere.

Well poker is currently enjoying good popularity ... however we can see how technology increasingly offers new and enjoyable things for entertainment ... so I think that the poker industry ... should make use of technology and give some freshness to poker platforms ...!

Dude look at GG they already have ton of entertainment. Its just ACR havent updated their software for decades. (You just put ACR on your profile thats why i mentioned them)

I only can speak for myself and yes, I'm getting sick of it. Only today I lost two times in aroll against J5o wit AKs and AA. It's just not anymore what it has been 5 years ago. Maybe they should rename the game to "Any two can do" and make a drivers license for real poker, where you have to name the 5 best starting hands or sth, hahaha

I think that poker is already losing popularity, but anything is possible. If something like this happens to the Christopher Brian Moneymaker effect, popularity will skyrocket and will be at its peak for a long time to come. But for this, the companies that own the PS need to invest good money, and they will not go for it. So, poker is now in decline compared to its popularity in the past.

I don't think that poker is losing it's popularity, it's just the fact that the pandemic has affected the Sports all over the world, including Poker.

In my country, the popularity of poker is only increasing and I think it will last for some good years. Here poker was not popular when I started to play around 15 years ago, but it became popular after a lot of celebrities started to play poker regulary.

It will have peaks and valleys just like any other sport or form of entertainment (whichever you consider poker). No different then when nobody cared about golf and then Tiger came along. It’s in an upswing over the last year due to everything being shut down from the recreational players to the pros who could no longer play live. It will drop again when pandemic over but it will never go away, at least live. Who knows when all the online sites will shut down unexpectedly and take all our bankroll!

Very successful answers from the friends of the thread, personally we are in a massive group of poker players, call them what you want, fish, Regular, pro. Or if it is true that before this pandemic poker was stagnant, of course with a immense range of players, when the world enters this disease, the number of new players increases that already with whom we still have a sea of players, who in the vast majority are very good, when everything has passed, the great range players will stay to follow the path of the game ,, this is a never ending game and nowadays, the competition is extremely very good ,, with so much technology that there is ,, it is almost impossible to go far in tournaments or Cash ... which makes it more competitive, and that is excellent ,,,, as time goes by it will continue to grow without stopping ,,I mean, we fear more poker than life ,,, to take care of ourselves friends ...

Actually I believe that poker has been treading water and has been for a while.

Apart from the Moneymaker effect - at a particular time in the culture and with broad coverage - the poker industry has failed to re-capture that moment. In fact I think they have given up on the idea.

There is a base of players which are going nowhere and others with a similar bent that will replace those who leave the game. But it is hardly as though the industry is striving to promote itself in a tangible way. They are just happy to have their slice from the existing cake.

So when an entity such as GG Poker makes a bigger and bigger splash within the global game I do not see them as establishing new players but rather poaching existing players in the North American and European context.

As for the industry promoting itself , I am tired of raising the fact most poker media content is now behind a PokerGo paywall which is only to the detriment of the game. The public is therefore now less aware of poker than they have been in decades.

Poker continues to evolve. The challenge is finding table games in casinos. They earn more money from machines then they do from dealers so table games are continuing to disappear. But, is poker still popular outside of casinos? I haven't seen any studies on poker activity outside of casinos.

No. Online is busy. Rumors are the casinos are buzzing with BAD players. Even the U.S. Poker open is having record fields of high roller play. Poker is alive and breathing and HOPEFULLY getting more players in the pool!

Yeah, I totally agree.

And would like to add that, after the "black Friday" and the Full Tilt Poker scandal, there had been no promotion of poker as a game at all. There used to be all kinds of advertisements featuring poker, the game had some screen time in a lot of movies, poker players were invited to TV shows etc.

And that kind of activity keeps the game alive. In the pandemic period, the situation has changed slightly thanks to the efforts of GGpoker. But its definitely not even close to how poker used to be popularized 10-15 years ago.

So my answer is yes, poker is losing popularity.

I do not think so! with the pandemic online poker rose a lot.! Perhaps by not doing big precendent events, the viewers fell, but will return with great momentum.
