Being able to smoke weed in the casinos would be nice, but I assume people would be just as offended by the smoke as they are with cigarettes.

Back before smoking was banned at tables, yeah, it was easy to chain smoke. I quit recently too and now that I don't -- yeah -- I'm glad it's been "banned". Except at the casinos here in Louisiana, all you have to do is walk about 10 feet over to the border between poker & slots to smoke.

I hear ya, now that I don’t smoke it doesn’t bother me at all. I’m happy playing in a smoke free environment now. Louisiana law would irritate me a little bit though. Whether I smoke or not, if you can smoke at the slot machines I think you should be able to smoke at the tables.

At live games it should not be allowed as many no longer smoke and are offended by the smell.

Do you believe we should be able to smoke cigarettes while we play, or do you like the non smoking trend?
I understand that your question is meant to extract some form of emotional responses from either side of the smoking tribes, which really has little to do with poker per-say, but there is still 50 minutes to kill before our freeroll starts, so I will waste a few seconds and play along…… lol
Ok, so here it goes……. If I had asked you if it would be ok to force your sexual needs onto an unreceptive or unwilling individual, do you believe you should be able to do so?
So you must have noticed how ridicules my statement sounded……Right ?

I can do without breathing all that poison .... and I used to smoke 2 packs a day for a lot of years ...so I get both sides, and back then I may have even defended inflicting myself on others, and it would have been wrong. There will come a day when society doesn't smoke in public at all ... personally I think that will be a good thing, and one of the best things I ever did was give up the nails....

The best option for me is sports.
To smoke? No, it's harmful - and if it's harmful - why do I need this nonsense?
Play sports for yourself and take care of your health, Friends

While they do not interfere with me - let them smoke, I do not mind. We are told "Freedom of one person ends where freedom of the other begins"

I smoked for a very long time, started the nasty habit when I was just 15. While I won't lecture people on why they should quit, I feel it shouldn't be at the poker table.

Listen, if you feel like you need a cig every now and again to relax, that's one thing. But if you're smoking tobacco or marijuana, doing so a few times a day and letting it get in the way of your life financially or otherwise just isn't GTO. With any vice, moderation is key. No harm, no foul if you want to smoke a cig though- many people do much worse to get their buzz, not that it makes smoking cigs healthy.

As for smoking cigarettes and poker, I can't speak on that myself since I'm anti-tobacco (but pro weed hehe), but I'm sure if your body is used to having nicotine in it's system, it requires you smoking to perform at maximum mentality. May be fine short-term, but this dependability long-term is obviously unhealthy.

When I was young, my parents would return home from the casino absolutely reeking of that smoker smell. I'm glad I wasn't around poker and casinos until after smoking regulations were implemented. My dad said you used to not be able to see across most poker rooms due to the smoke. No thanks! I may be pro-weed, but even if it were federally legal to smoke, I wouldn't want it or any kind of smoke at my table (or vapor for that matter). Step outside or hit up the parking garage. You can take a 15 minute break from a cash session, and no one at the table will be upset.

Hey there! I'd just like to point out that cigarette use actually has far more concrete, scientific evidence linking it to brain damage than marijuana does. Though not as much evidence exists, I do agree with you that long-term, excessive marijuana usage could cause issues related to the brain. Still, to say "cigarettes are good and weed is bad for the brain" isn't based on any truth.

For me it feels so good not to smoke I really don't like smoking. I think if I start smoking and playing poker I would go on tilt frequently.

I don't know about brain damage, but I have a friend who has told me for years that smoking tobacco has been clinically shown to have a (much) greater effect on lung capacity than smoking marijuana - which he said the studies showed to have no effect.

I just accepted this without argument because he is the kind of interwebz researcher that reads the first four words of an article and thinks "OK, I know everything on the subject now". The subject came up again recently, so I searched. I was expecting the studies to have been commissioned by High Times or something like that, but they were legit, published studies. I read some of the abstracts and realized that they were comparing effects on lung capacity by "X" number of "smoking years". A "smoking year" was defined as 365 "smoking days". A cigarette "smoking day" was consumption of ten or twenty cigarettes, and a pot "smoking day" was one joint. This is an amazingly idiotic expenditure of research funds. I think I could have told them that smoking one joint has less effect on lung capacity than smoking twenty cigarettes without any research at all!

All that to say, lack of research into long term effects of marijuana vs tobacco on brain function means that one should look carefully at the research that is available. In the meantime I will happily partake in both (at the same time!) and let the chips fall where they may. :thrasher::canabis:

I smoke but only outside, it is just common courtesy. You have to show that respect, it's just obvious.

I live in Panama, and while it’s against the law to smoke indoors it’s not enforced. I play a weekly tournament down here and there’s always more smokers than non smokers. They’re gonna smoke at the table and for now there’s not much anyone can do about it.

I quit Smoking 6 years ago. Very happy. Of course sometimes you want to make a couple of puffs. But I perfectly understand that it can't be done and it isn't necessary. Smoking is harmful in General. And you can play poker without cigarettes.
