I have to agree with MrSticker on this.
And I'd like to add that "top" lacks sufficient definition, and verifiability is an issue.

Bragging rights are fun, but people should concentrate on making the most of their own game.

I agree with part 1 and hopefully I will fall into that category sometime within the next year. Have been running pretty good lately overall. I still feel I am years away from being where you guys are though.

On the sandwich and tea thing. You are a slanty. I am a mod. According to the guidelines you serve me. And my car needs to be washed.

And BBB - we won the guys vs gals last time. We will win it again this time. They crumble when they face us.

I agree with Rex here in regards to the making money part. So using this criteria, I don't qualify. But I appreciate the mention all the same. I think I'm an "average" player, who, if time permitted, could be a lot more with proper study. But I just don't have the time for that unfortunately.

As for that sandwich, dear Rex...nevermind the slight taste of almonds...I'm sure it's perfectly safe for consumption. I made it myself.

Ok Jaqsti, here's the reason for this thread.

The thread was never meant to be hostile to women or anyone. What I intended was to put together a list of names of those people who had demonstrated their poker savvy through posting articles or analyzing hands.
It was not a pissing contest as many of the ladies have tried to make it. I'm all for sisterhood but come on girls think about it before you pop off.

What I am thinking is we get these top players together and have them on a voluntary basis. Set up a little inner circle.

Now I know that will raise some eyebrows so let me explain.
Every now and again a poster will come along and post that they want to go pro. Fair enough but lets really aid this person. Advise him or HER, to play in a SnG against eight of the players from the list. A 5.00 buy in should be enough to encourage play. At the end of the game everyone could request a hand history and each person could then explain their thought process on a given hand along with an overall analysis of the play of a hand. The newbie would get a clear picture if he was ready for the big leagues or not and the team members would gain some more insight as well. It would be important not to make deals between members and I don't think they would as the money is not that big a deal for any of these guys.

Does anyone see where i was going with this or has this just been a colossal waste of time which has just about caused my lynching.

I think everyone in the forum could benefit from the discussion that would follow these games.

If someone wants to go pro, he needs to play cash, not SNGs.

BTW, two weeks ago we had a nice little cash game at 25nl 6max with zach, chuck, F Paulson, dj, feitr, jagsti and four dogs. This is supposed to turn into a hands up video one if these days. Should be fun to watch, as we all played crazy LAG.

Regardless of intentions, threads like this are always going to result in some degree of arguments/ego trips. For some forums this is appropriate(say clan forums for certain video games...aka lair of egos), but for some (aka here) it doesn't exactly do much good. In a small forum like CC, it probably isn't a very good idea to encourage elitism if you want regular members to actually contribute/feel welcome (ie. not feel like they are wasting their time).

As for the actual intention, i don't really see it working. First of all, most ppl who want to go pro will play cash, and sngs are a completely different ball game in terms of dynamics. Second, i can't really see you managing to get 9 ppl on at the same time to play ultra micro sngs, when they regularly play anywhere from 25nl-200nl. Third, one game doesn't really tell you anything about somebody's play (the hands up cash game is a good example). Fourth, the BEST indication of whether you are ready for the "big time" is your winrate over a long sample...plain and simple. No offense, but playing with some CC players in a SnG is going to tell you nothing about whether or not you are ready to turn pro or not.

This has sort of been experimented in some shape or other previously. The problem is, most of us don't really have the time to play, post, study and do these type of things.

We have shared msn/aim stuff and tried various posts to instigate some wide ranging theories, but it all seems to fall flat after a while.

I actually feel there is some merit in your suggestion, as there is a lot of skill and knowledge that has accumulated with the regular posters, that imo, we can all tap into. I just don't know how we can go about it tbh.

Also--have you considered 'Egon Towst'?? AND I think the reason for this whole thing IS an excellent idea! And for those of us not in their legue in not only would be fun to watch, extremley informative!

Why is it whenever I make someone's list of good players, others always have to come in and take a big dump on it?

This name calling and mudslinging is precisely why i would never join Peta, or any other group that used this tactic. You are no better than the person who berates others as idiots and morons when they suffer a badbeat. If you can not disagree without being diagreeable don't say anything. Simple fact is if you don't post in the hand analysis area or even in the poker general forum you don't make the list. Don't blame me or anyone else for your shortcomings.

I don`t know that that`s necessarily true. I believe there are a number of successful online pros who make their bread and butter by multitabling SNGs.

I have no-one to blame but myself, though. I purposely use different screen names at different poker rooms to avoid attention. Can`t then complain if it works.

And I have to agree with Mucky about this line, but it applies to everyone regardless of gender. So you could probably lump me in with the girls. I don't post enough in the hand analysis area, so my skills are not as well-known as those who do. (Though I must say that I've seen Aloe and BBB post there in spurts and they have probably posted there more than me over the last year.) But I also must say that I kinda like my skills to be a bit of a secret for now. I'd consider myself a cash game player, but I don't brag about it. (If you want to know more about me, read my blog.) I like the fact that no one considers me a "top player". So I'll tell you that I FEAR NO ONE on this forum except Tenbob and maybe Rex a little. The rest of you can bring it on!

But that also brings up the subject of why some people don't post much in the Hand Analysis section. Some people are afraid to get overly criticized (I've seen it happen here). Others might want to keep their mistakes a secret. In my case, the hands I've posted in the past haven't gotten enough responses to satisfy me. I've been told that my hands have been either "too standard" or "too complex" for people to jump in and give their opinion.

I think that this issue deserves more attention than who thinks who is a "top player". I might even start a separate thread about this issue, so be on the lookout.

There will be many regs on here who have been missed out, either through ppl forgetting or that they just don't post enough in certain sections of the forum.

I think this thread has somewhat diverted from it's initial intent. I don't know if the op just meant it to be about playing a sng, I think that was just an example.

As for pro players, well yes the majority of online pros will be cash players, but there's still a decent proportion that are sng'ers imo.

dario minieri is a sng pro

and hte guy who tops the sharkscope leaderboards, can't think of his name but i know it begins with a p, is a omaha HU sng pro
