The basic idea is to make money. You can sit and wait for good cards but when you are facing 8 other players good cards have to hold and then be good enough to win against all these players playing all kinds of different hands for all kinds of different reasons. Your hand is going to win rarely here so don’t get upset when your big cards get cracked, it’s part of the game.
Getting those players to fold so you’re not multi-way gives yourself a better chance. Playing more hands from later in position helps.
Poker is more than just waiting on good cards only to see them loose. Study and find out new ways to win, then it becomes fun, and then when your big cards get cracked it won’t matter because you can make money lots of other ways. Good luck!

The aim is to win. The aim is to maximise profits when one has the opportunity. The aim is to induce payment from weaker hands your opponent may have. The aim is to make your hand look weak to your opponent. All easier said than done and variance will get in the way most of the time.

Yes, it happens when stronger hands lose, but that's part of the game. And most of the time you will win, if we don't doubt about the poker room's fairness. Every tournament is a different story. The point is to be the best!

There are many different stories. Someone becomes an alcoholic because they cannot control themselves, someone becomes addicted to gambling because they lack discipline and willpower, someone becomes a businessman and earns a lot of money, and someone just loves their simple job and that is enough for them.
For me, poker is just entertainment, thanks to which I can distract myself and not think about the problems and difficulties in my life.
