What do you do to stay focused while playing poker?

Making sure you're relaxed and focused is essential to having a good match. Also, no distractions. Can't tell you how many times I've made a bad call because I become flustered from nuisancing background noise.

In my case, the music helps me concentrate, I can not think straight if there's someone talking to me about other than poker, so I choose to play music so I can concentrate and focus on the game. choose your favorite songs and prepare your headphones and try my technique if it works you'll tell me later.

If playing online, I make sure that my wife does not need the computer when I want to play, and I let her know that I will be playing for two hours or so. I try not to play longer because it is usually after dinner, and I tend to get too sleepy after eating.
When playing live at a casino, I enjoy the table banter, as long as it is friendly and not trash talking. That will keep me on my toes.

If you play poker and you want to win something, you need to focus on the game.
Of course, sometimes i can play some freerolls, where i don,t care about result, so i can listen to the music(for example) at the same time. But for sure, if this is a serious game, i focused on the game.

Like others, I find that being able to be focused for long periods of time starts before the session itself. I ask myself a couple of questions before I decide to start a session

Am I well rested? Did I sleep well last night? Did I get a full round of sleep?
Do I feel healthy? Is there any sickness or lack of being 100% that I can detect?
Am I hungry? Have I had proper nutrition to start the day?

If I answer all these questions in a way that I can move forward then I

Spend a few minutes in a light meditation.
Ensure I've got a cup of coffee to carry me to the first break!

Then... I play poker! In general, I try to stay in tune with myself throughout the session. On each break I revisit how I feel, how my mind feels, how my focus feels, if I'm hungry. Also, I keep good tabs on my decision making, especially when I lost a pot, I ask myself "Are you capable of making good decisions or is your focus gone for the day."

Very good question, I have this problem too, i'm listening music, but it can make problem, if you play many tournaments in the same time, and you can pass some hands, that it was better to play. And I have read, that is better do not drink coca-cola, coffee, and other drinks, which have caffeine, before playing, because they do you more neurotic.

I watch my opponents , the cards on the board , sometimes I take notes (ok , rarely

) , I lke listening to music cause it relaxes me .
Now if I can , I play a second table (or a 3rd if possible ) or I watch a youtube video , or TV while I pay attention to the first table (priority) .
Unfortunatelly I don't drink coffee , a big disadvantage for me , it would really help me at night .

Wow so many different tips but at the same time some that may or may not work...I like sipping on green tea or coffee when I've really lost interest but with longer tournaments i do find it challenging staying interested or focused in the game... i think this is a skill that you acquire with time...

I second this.

Analyzing other players hands at the table that your not involved in is great for both maintaining focus and for figuring out how your opponents play to gain an edge on them.
