While tournaments attract attention with their huge prizes and worldwide fame, cash games offer a number of undeniable advantages for those who seek stability and freedom.A tournament player becomes a hostage to the event schedule. The desire to participate in events with specific guaranteed prize pools means being strictly tied to a specific start time.

I love the freedom, the constant action, and being able to play every hand on my own terms. But tourneys definitely hit different when you’re deep and chasing that final table.

Hi, depending on whether online or irl; cash game used to be the thing, then MTT; online now sitngo is gaining popularity or multiple step tournaments which is my favoured flavour; 2 stages of 3hours each online on weekends.

Personally, I'm a tournament player. I actually don't care for cash games so much. Tournaments fit my style because I'm a competitive SOB and I like to win.

For me, the hierarchy is as follows: 1. DoN Sit & Go tournaments 2. Cash games 3. Freezeout MTTs.

Hi RisingRoyal here. I am looking forward to this group. I have played for several years. However, I had to step away for a while, now I am slowly getting back in the swing of things.

Tournaments!
It's hard for me to tell myself when it's time to stop playing cash. At least, in tournaments I do not have to worry about this

I prefer tournaments, mainly because I like the feeling that every decision can have a bigger impact on the whole session. There’s also more variety: stack sizes change, blinds increase, the bubble creates extra pressure, and you constantly have to adjust your strategy. Cash games are great because you can play deeper and the structure is more stable, but sometimes I find them a bit repetitive. Tournaments also give me that competitive feeling of trying to build a stack and eventually reach the final stages. Of course, the variance is much higher, so I don’t always love the swings, but overall I find MTTs more interesting and rewarding.

I enjoy the thrills of a good tournament - the ups & downs, the psychological warfare. And of course the chance to turn a modest buyin into a big prize!

I like tournaments more! Although lately I've been playing more cash games to earn promo tickets for tournaments. But I still like tournament poker more because there are bigger opportunities to make money there. ;)

I've switched to grinding MTTs for a few years, but when I've started playing poker 10+ years ago I've played pretty much only cash games (especially online)... From my experience, nowadays it's getting tougher and tougher to beat CGs - the field at all stakes is full of good regs, at least at the sites I play, while the recreational/weak players seem to have moved to playing tournaments... Also, as a (serious) recreational player - that treats poker as a hobby, I kinda like the way MTTs work - closer to a 'game' - more interesting/entertaining...

It’s not that I definitively prefer one format over the other; the choice between tournaments and cash games depends strictly on the time and money I have available to invest in the games and, above all, on my risk tolerance. My emotional state at the time of playing also influences my choice. In short, I enjoy both formats and opt for one or the other depending on the context.

Yeah, cash games require a lot of emotional control to play well. That’s one of the reasons I prefer tournaments. If I tilt, at least the damage is more limited

I like to play both. If I don't have much time to spend playing poker I will play a short session of cash games. Tournaments take longer so you can't play tournaments if you have time constraints. You need to make sure you can take the time to make the best decisions and play your best.

I like both, but cash games are better for my routine, since I can have total control of the time I will spend on a session and since I can decide exactly when to start and when to leave...

I prefer tournaments because I enjoy the challenge of building a stack and making deep runs. Every stage of a tournament requires different decisions, which keeps the game interesting. I still play cash games occasionally to improve my post-flop skills, but tournaments are definitely my favorite format.
