not sure if its been said before but one of the biggest impacts on making it as professional player is game selection. whether that is mtts sit and goes cash games or etc. that doesnt necessary mean seeing who has registered to what sometimes thats not possible depending on sites some just have player 1 player 2 etc, it can also mean assessing the ecosystem and player pool as a whole.
There are numerous occasions where I have seen people who were better players then me failing and being losing players because they were playing in a much tougher ecosystem. one situation involved a guy who was playing $100 no limit cash online on pokerstars consistently which I assume would be a very tough field. he was consistently losing but was a better player then me. if he had simply moved to lower stakes even micros and or played live cash instead or switched format he very likely could have played poker for a living. However, he was actually down quite a lot due to this and then said it is incredibly difficult to play for a living.

I think a successful poker player is patient, disciplined, and always willing to learn. They don't let bad beats control their emotions, and they focus on making good decisions instead of trying to win every hand. I hope to build those habits as I continue learning.

To succeed in any profession, intelligence is important, but in poker it is one of the main foundations. The more intelligent a player is, the better their decision-making tends to be, and consequently, the better their long-term results.

In addition, it is essential to have strong technical knowledge, patience, study GTO extensively, and practice consistently.

Have you ever watched chess tournaments? The best players in the world play very similarly to Stockfish, which is considered the strongest chess engine in the world. In many games, they achieve between 90% and 99% accuracy throughout the entire game, which can last around 60 moves.

The same happens in poker. The best players in the world also achieve very high decision accuracy, playing in a way that is very close to what solvers and GTO recommend. This requires a high level of intelligence, dedication, countless hours of study and practice, and, in my opinion, natural talent as well.

Consistentcy and volume; showing up everyday, putting up the work, all of work..
Patience ; no need to rush, you'll get there when you there..
Keep improving your game; never stop studying..
And most important thing; DISCIPLINE! Have a reasonable goal to achieve, make a plan and stick to it no matter what happens.. that's what makes the difference

I think both skill and luck have to come together to make a deep run or achieve a big result. The important thing is having both, but reaching a really high level of skill is difficult. We all have our own knowledge and understanding of how to play, but when skill and luck align, you can accomplish great things. The reality is that very few players have enough skill and consistency to make those results happen regularly.

I think poker is a combination of skill and luck, but skill becomes much more important over a large sample size. A successful player needs discipline, patience, emotional control, bankroll management, and the ability to make good decisions even when the results don't go their way. You can't control the cards you're dealt, but you can control how you play them. ♠️

In my opinion, becoming a successful poker player is about much more than simply winning big pots. You need strong fundamentals, good bankroll management, discipline, emotional control, and the ability to learn from your mistakes. Consistency is also very important, because poker involves a lot of variance.
I would consider someone successful when they are consistently profitable over a meaningful sample size, manage their bankroll responsibly, and are able to make rational decisions even during losing periods. For me, long-term consistency is a much better measure of success than a single big tournament win.
