Where did you learn to play?

My friends taught me the rules of holdem a few years ago, but i learned to more advanced strategies from books by pros, such as doyle brunson, hellmuth, harrington and david skalantsky(however you spell it).etc. All amazing books

I got into it watching it on tv and then I read and learn the hands and ranks of the cards and I am still learning as I play.

I learned to play poker when I was a kid. Family get togethers we would play your typical draw, stud, and no peeky games. I wasnt introduced to holdem until last year and learned online at party poker.

Chiropractic school of all things. Breaks between classes and lunch hour there was always a game going on in the caffateria. We then moved to late night gambling sessions. We play all kinds of games but now have settled in hold'em and omaha.

I started cuz I LOVE gambling!! I went to Vegas last year. Didn't know jack about poker. I played only blackjack...But started watching some of it on TV (World poker tour) with my main man Daniel Nugraneau (whatever) and started liking it. So read a couple of books and started playing on poker stars. Which by the way sucks!

Then slowly got addicted! One good thing, I've never lost more than I can afford!
Now I play poker regularly, and every day learn something new.

I owuld start with home games than move onto online and when you are finally ready go to the casio and rake in the big bucks

playing real games with friends, then jetset poker play money to get online experience, but i only really started learning with real money, cause people do play differently with it

I learned from watching the wsop episodes on espn, then proceeded to buy Super System/ Small Stakes Hold'em / Dan harrington Hold'em / Phil Hellmuth / and Phil Gordon Books.

I learned poker from my family. We had a friend who we would visit and it would always end with the entire family playing various poker games. It was a lot of fun, and the kids always won as the adults just played out their hands.

Many years later, I picked up Hold'Em and spent quite a bit of time at the B&Ms losing money until I started playing play money at pokerstars...quite a journey

well i grew up playing spades and to me playing poker came kinda easy. My first poker games was 5 card draw and 7 stud. Right know though my thing is holdem and omaha h/l

I learned in high school playing with my buddies. Good ol penny poker and we played all types and versions it seems- the good ol days!

I learnt from a small bonus magasine inside PC Format (Online Gambler) and then logged onto pokerroom.com to try out play money Limit Hold'em. All went from there.

Some friends of mine had become involved in poker and were doing quite well, and they'd been trying to convince me for some time to join them. After putting it off for awhile, I watched a couple of poker shows on TV just to see the basic Hold 'Em game play, then did a few practice games on the computer and played a couple of hands with a friend in a hotel room while on vacation.

The next week I played my first in-person tournament at a local casino. I had stellar luck and made it to the final table as the chip leader (directly taking out my friend along the way - minor guilt pangs there), but quickly lost it all and finished just out of the money.

I've been playing a few low-stakes ring games and tourneys online and still have a lot to learn, but my goal is to become a good player. From what I understand, mastery of the game is a lifelong, ever-evolving process.

i learned to play by watching late night poker on TV. Then I read some books like supersystem 2 etc then i got myself hooked up with some poker lessons online from holdemcoach.co.uk. this all made me into a winning player!

I learned to play online and from my fiancee. He is a great teacher 🙂

I tought myself how to play poker, by seein' what was keepin' my bf up all hours of the night. so I took a look see and kicked him off the computer and read the tutorial that UB has on their site and looked at hand rankin's and took it off from there played sit n go's and at the penny tables. Funnily enough, I learnt to play online, using a tutorial I found on holdempoker.com quite a while ago... since then I've progressed from playing with play money chips onto real money.... also playing some games for some decent money with friends. How about you? Where did you learn?
I started playing for pennies with my brother and the neighbor kids from across the dirt road from our house. Seven card stud (Dr. Pepper style! --- 10's, 2's, 4's wild); Seven stud low hole card wild, 7 card no peekie night baseball--you name it, we played it and the more wild cards the better. 10 years later I played in my first casino game and got my wild-card-reared butt kicked by a bunch of rocks who must have been salivating when I sat down.

Now, years later I scratch my head wondering how I survived for so long with out knowing diddly squat about the game I loved. I am no pro or even a semi expert but I do manage to eek out a positive cash flow from the low limit games I play and have even won a few cheap tournaments.

I am sure that a few years from now I will probably look back on the present and wonder how I survived playing as badly as I do now!

I started playing poker at the last Easternn
I was taking part to a disscusion on a chat about betting and some guys said they are playing poker on a poker soft and i said myself : "Why shouldn`t i try this new thing?".After this i started to search more infos about poker and now i think i am a profesional in this domaine:icon_thum

my mom taught me at 5 with pennies, then i saw rounders as a teen and realized how serious the whole thing was - could finally go to the casinos around here at 18 which is when my friends started getting into it and it evolved from there....new to the online aspect of it all, which is a whole new dynamic because i'm a very body language type person....but i'm getting better at this not seeing the person thing with this forum and its disection of the game
