In live games, some players are very talkative while others barely say a word.

I’ve noticed talking can sometimes give away information, but it can also make the game more enjoyable.

Do you usually chat at the table or stay focused and quiet?

In my location, playing live is completely unprofitable, so I only play online. Talking during the game helps some, while others find it distracting. However, I think I'd rather avoid talking during a live game. It's easier to stay focused in silence.

I'm not talking that much in general, at the table I think I can exchange a couple of words.

I only talk back if they're saying something unrelated to the hand. I had this one guy driving me nuts with all his talking in a live game, and ultimately I think that is part of some players' strategy, you know, the Negreanu/Kabrhel modus operandi

I only play on line and I usually play 2 tables, so I have no time to talk.
But I used to love watching Daniel Negreanu play poker just because he talked a lot and made the game fun to watch.
His style, his attitude; he's still my favourite..

For me it depends upon the other players at the table, because I'm a little shy about starting a conversation. I enjoy talking, so if one or more players are talking I'll happily join in. :) Sometimes if the player next to me has an interesting looking card protector or charm I'll ask about it and that often leads to a conversation.

My little wolf Filotima is a good conversation starter too. A couple of weeks ago a man at the table started to joke with me about her. That got me joking back at him, and before we knew it we each had a new friend. We played together a few days later in another tourney and the whole table had fun. :)

I'm super curious where you're playing. Live games in Canada tend to be incredibly soft, to the point that the quality of play at live games tends to be on par with online games 10-50 times as small online.

ie a 0.25/0.50 cent winning player online could beat the $2/$5 live games or perhaps even $5/$10.

I think talking at the table can be EV, especially if you work in sales, want a new job or own a business. There is some networking opportunity.

Online? No, it's omegle quality conversations at best or people whinging about standard bad beats or crying about fish playing badly. Far too much tapping the glass. Seeing people get mad about literal pennies worth of EV is depressing.

I've never participated in live poker events.

The only games I've played in person were with friends at home, in cash games.

But if I were to participate in a live poker tournament, without a doubt my approach would be one of total focus and absolute silence.

I would do this simply to focus on the game, not to demonstrate my strategy.

If I start talking, I get distracted and don't notice how the other players are playing.

In a live game, I want to be as polite as possible at the table, but at the same time maintain a fun and friendly atmosphere.I feel quite capable of carrying on a conversation, keeping the energy fun and light, but it's hard to ignite a spark, especially when the table is in super-serious mode.

I prefer silence. It helps me concentrate; any distraction and I end up not thinking straight.

I play only on-line now so apart from the odd 4 letter word when I am badly outdrawn, usually I say nothing.

Depends on the spot. In general I prefer staying quiet and focused, especially in tougher games where every bit of information matters.

But against the right players, talking can be a tool. You can make people more comfortable, get them to reveal things, or even influence how they play. Just have to be aware that it can also work against you if you’re not careful.
