I’ve been seeing more people talk about online poker again, but I’m curious if it’s still beginner-friendly. Some say it’s more skill-based than other casino games, while others think it can be tough because of experienced players.

For those who play, what should beginners know before trying online poker?

Welcome to the forum. Poker is a skill game with a luck element, and this separate it from all other casino games, which are essentially unbeatable, unless you find dodgy edges like card counting etc. And yes there are experienced players in online poker especially at the higher stakes of course. If you want to try poker, you should begin at the lower stakes AKA "micros". CC also have freerolls and an excellent beginners course.

It would be smarter to learn playing freerolls and free chip games .Unless you have some experience, you'll probably lose some cash playing online poker .

Yes and no, if you invest in learning and the use of HUD I think online is easy but again the pool of players online come in all categories hence at times GTO or ICM concepts might fail

Beginners who continue improving have a good chance at winning online. The big number of players means there are many who plays casual, without knowledge

Start at the lowest stakes, learn proper bankroll management, study more than you think is necessary, and accept that variance can hide your true skill level for a long time

To start, study the theory (there's a lot of it in the public domain), play micro-limits and freerolls, and then think about increasing the limits depending on the results

If this is how it starts, I recommend playing freerolls and, once you see how it works, making small deposits

I think online poker is still beginner-friendly, but it's definitely more competitive than it was years ago. The good news is that beginners can improve much faster now because there are so many free resources available.

My advice would be:

- Start at the lowest stakes possible.
- Learn the basics of position and starting hand selection.
- Don't focus on results in the short term—focus on making good decisions.
- Use bankroll management so a bad run doesn't wipe you out.
- Review your biggest hands after each session.

The biggest surprise for new players is usually variance. You can play well and still lose in the short run, so patience is essential.

If a beginner is willing to study a little and stay disciplined, poker can be one of the most rewarding games to learn because skill has a much bigger impact than in most casino games.

Poker is a game of skill and strategy, so anyone who dedicates themselves to learning has a chance to win. I'm a beginner and I manage to make extra income with online poker.

Can you explain why at times 'ICM concepts might fail'?

Of course, if you are starting to play, learning strategies and tactics is very important to continue advancing in poker. And he's adjusting his game. And you'll see if you're going to play aggressive or passive. Depending on the table where you are. It's a good school to learn online.

Probably not worth the effort against todays players and the tougher games.
You could be the exception, but most players struggle to break even let alone make a decent profit.

The game of Poker became more "robotic" after the rise of GTO, but it still remains friendly for beginners, as long as you find a community that can help you.

Absolutely, online poker is definitely still worth playing for beginners, and you’ve come to the right place! CardsChat is a total game-changer for newcomers because it allows you to gain valuable tournament experience completely risk-free through their exclusive events.

On top of that, practicing solid bankroll management right from the start is key, it takes the stress out of the game and makes the whole experience way more enjoyable.

Good luck

i would prefer online poker for practice, learning strategy, etc
because it can learn from small stake until big stake

I've been playing for around 20 years, and I can honestly say it's a lot harder to succeed nowadays than it was when I started. My advice is to only start if you really love the game.

Whether to play or not, I think, is everyone's choice. I probably wouldn't have started playing 11 years ago if I'd known how much I had to go through... now it's sometimes a nice cash bonus. It's everyone's choice.

It's all subjective. Depends on what you want/expect from it and how much you're willing to put in in terms of time and effort.
