Depositing just to get bonuses

Most online sites offer deposit bonuses (usually a freeroll at least).

Does anyone deposit just to take advantage of the bonus(es)? i.e. not a forced "reload".

Has anyone done this and had problems falling foul of "terms and conditions"?

I don't apply there. Support blocks players from receiving promotions and bonus offers due to abuse of the bonus policy.

The casino isn't worried about that, because it knows that in the long run they'll lose all the money and the bonus to the system, what I know about this is that you can't withdraw the bonus, only the deposited amount, some sites, like GG Poker, only let you withdraw after playing a certain number of hands, they want you to play and lose it.

I've made plenty of easy money doing this over the years but it usually always ends up in a ban so I don't really think its the best strategy, not the worst though either.

it's called bonus 'chasing' and has happened online since the offers began . fine to attempt , but you normally have to roll over a good share of your deposit before withdrawing . and it is hard to generate enough rake to actually clear the whole bonus , unless you are a high roller multi tabling .

I think someone recently posted in the 888 support thread that they had issues with this and their account got closed.

They want you to play and they will reward you for your increased amount of play.
Interesting how you're able to change the simple meaning of this to it being some entity that is out to get you, lol.
If you're a 'winning player', then typically a deposit bonus will be the same as them increasing the rakeback % they are giving you. It is definitely an added bonus for those who are able to take advantage of it. But depositing and playing lots of hands as a losing player isn't going to increase how much you're going to win on the site... it's going to end up having you lose more than you'd normally be losing. It's not some difficult math problem.

Do most online sites offer deposit bonuses these days? I find it to be a very rare occasion. If I were to see one and I had some time to be able to play, then by all means I'm going to try to take advantage of it.

In the past I would deposit to take advantage of every single deposit bonus offer available. One would be crazy not to.

No. I have not done this and had problems falling foul of TOC but one needs to read the fine print if you're not familiar with that particular site's promo. Some sites are much more trustworthy with promo wording being very straightforward than others. ie. not sure I'd consider making a deposit on 888 for a bonus... actually I KNOW I wouldn't

I think, first deposit bonus is still a pretty common thing. But when it comes to bonuses for redepositing maybe sites target them to players, who are either losing or have not been playing for a while? When I returned to ACR Poker after a 6 month break, I was offered a redeposit bonus, but I have not seen any such offer since.

Tried it once with Partypoker did not the bonuses so withdraw the money.

Yes, a lot of people deposit just to take advantage of bonuses, but it depends on the terms and conditions. The problem usually arises if you withdraw your deposit immediately, have multiple accounts, or try to abuse the promotion.

Before doing so, it is advisable to check the wagering requirements, withdrawal conditions and bonus restrictions.

I was thinking of 888 and their "$1k Depositors Free Tournament" that runs once per week at the moment.
I am winning (modestly) on 888 so never 'need' to make a deposit, so as an example would this be a T&C trap taking advantage of this offer to depositors on a regular basis?

I would for sure check the T&C, since most bonuses on 888 can only be used, if you have no regular balance in your account.

As long as the turnover requirements are met, there shouldn't be problems. I've done this for WPTG, PP and sometimes 888 in the past.

It’s not necessarily a problem if someone registers and makes a deposit specifically to take advantage of a deposit bonus or freeroll. The important thing is to carefully read the bonus terms and conditions beforehand, especially the wagering/rake requirements, minimum deposit requirements, withdrawal conditions, and any applicable restrictions.

Personally, I wouldn’t choose a poker room based solely on the bonus. What matters much more to me is that the platform is reliable, deposits and withdrawals work smoothly, and customer support is responsive and able to properly handle any issues that may arise.

I’ve had plenty of headaches with those welcome deposit bonuses..!lol
For micro-stakes players, meeting the withdrawal requirements is practically impossible. It pushes you to "force" your limits just to reach the goal. If you deposit $20 and need to generate $50 in rake to withdraw, the ratio is way off. What they ask for to unlock the full bonus and make it available for withdrawal is just excessive!
However, if you're depositing to get tournament entries or tickets, i think it’s great!
