As a recreational player, I don't find it particularly relevant.

I believe the rules of the game itself won't change at all, which is what matters most to us recreational players.

If you are just playing freerolls , regulations + 'industry news' are almost meaningless . That said , I will admit I love following the results of the pros in big events like the Triton Poker Tour , the WPT and the wsop .

not all that important i would argue... unless you are a player that plays in tournaments often... if you do, then you probably do need to keep a bit of an eye on possible new rules, trends, etc, etc. but if you are really just a recreational player that doesnt player all that much (other than on CC of course

I used to follow the news , see what new the poker rooms were about to introduce to players , reading also mews or gossip for bad poker rooms' decisions or practices against players , also regulations , but not any more . It's of no interest . Especially regulations . Not sth I can do to change in any way . Only that matters if you are allowed to play and of it's profitably promising , everything else is cr** )))

For me it's very important to keep up with the industry news because its important to know what's going on in the game I love to play. The regulations are very important because you want to know all the rules and that you know what not to do .

I think it is really important to follow the regulations if you are grinding online. If so, you need to keep up with which countries or states different sites can be legally played because it may affect your ability to cash out your winnings (hopefully!). I also like to follow the news of events around the world and which players are succeeding or which are cheating or scamming. It is kind of a small world so it's good to know who are the shady characters. It is also fun to read about the latest trends in play and study.

I don't follow the decisions that they make about online poker any more after the government said i could only play people in my province so now i just play for fun,if i want to play for money i go to a real game

Yes, staying informed is critical, especially where I live in Hungary.
Due to strict government regulations and licensing laws, many major poker sites disappeared or blocked Hungarian players over the recent years.
For us, industry news is essential to know where we can still safely play.
Right now, staying updated is more important than ever because a shift in the regulatory landscape might bring some positive changes soon
We always have to watch the news to see if the market reopens for international operators

I think every poker player should be informed about these stuff as some of them may be surprisingly bad, but I'll not be hypocrite and say that I'm reading news and following all the info about the poker world nowadays lol

Anyway, I guess I'm not alone in this situation, at least not if I only include recreational players in our analysis...

I think that recreational players don't need to stay informed about the poker industry and regulation changes (of course that if you don't have a place to play (novice recreational player) you should inform yourself what is the "nearest" place you can play (live and online) and choose poker room in which you can withdraw money - although this is more connected with poker rooms reviews than regulations).

In my case, as a senior recreational player, I'm only playing if I'm able to. If the regulation changes and I really cannot play anymore anywhere (it's possible but unlikely) within my country of residence, so be it. I'm not going to change my country just to be able to play poker recreationally. What I want to say is that, in my case, following the news isn't going to help me knowing the fact that I'm not going to be able to play anymore (potentially) - I can compare it with following certain type of news, for instance, crime news - if I'm following it every day I'll just feel bad.
