For me, it's a combination of things: good software, reliable payouts, a decent player pool, and fair promotions.
If the games are enjoyable and I trust the site, I'm much more likely to stick around than chase the biggest bonuses.

It has to be varied: I open a lot of rooms at the same time, because in some of them I'm terrible at it, but I keep opening them because of the free tournaments and satellites, and that keeps motivating me to play in these places full of fish, sharks and whales, and as they say, you learn from mistakes what better school than the defeat itself.

Online safety and enforcing the rules is a must for me. I like sites that make you use your real name and ban players from countries where cheating is highly suspected. A lot of poker rooms are usually full of players from a select few countries that are known for having players colluding and high levels of cheating so I don't like to play there.

I take deposit and withdrawal options into account; accessing these options is very difficult in Venezuela, so cryptocurrencies are the primary method. For instance, you cannot make deposits or withdrawals from Venezuela on PokerStars, whereas on GGPoker, it is possible to do so using crypto.

I started out on both 888poker and PokerStars, but honestly, I prefer 888 because of the lobby—it’s more optimized. I’ve also noticed that at the buy-in levels I usually play, I run into the same players, whereas on PokerStars, players with no history are constantly coming and going.

Same in my case and it's both for live and online poker - fair games is the number 1 priority and I usually do proper research before picking where I plan to play (nowadays it's not that tough to find information on anything), friendly people and/or an online community is important too (when I've started playing on Unibet for example, still a pretty good poker room for my country Romania, their community was very active and even now it's still there and even have an official Discord channel* this is more active than the unibetcommunity...), of course the smooth gameplay is very important too - especially online - if the app is not stable and/or for some reason is not well optimized, I'm not playing on that poker site - no matter how good the reviews/offers/games are... similarly for live poker - if the dealers, staff and the atmosphere in general isn't good, the chances are pretty low for me coming back to the same poker room.
