In my experience - expect to be beaten by these maniacs (recreational players) at least 70 percent of the time especially on the freerolls

The only way to be beaten by maniacs 70% of the time is by playing badly. Obviously we will lose the vast majority of pots when we fold pre, but in terms of chips, far more than 70% of the time, someone other than the maniac will have them at the end of the session. Hopefully it will be us.

It's rare, but it happens all the time
Something can not be rare and at the same time happen "all the time" lol.

Yeah it happens. Even at 80% you still loose 1 time in 5, so maybe it doesn’t bother me anymore just because I’ve seen it play out like this so many times I’m just used to it now lol.
But your percentage is off. You are 80% vs a worse hand before the flop. On the flop that changes, you are no longer an 80% favorite to win. On a draw heavy board it’s even worse for you. If someone is on a combo draw they could have like 15 -17 outs which on the flop pretty much makes them the favorite hand to win now. If they don’t hit their draw on the Turn, now you become the favorite hand to win again but it’s around 70%
Anyways it’s still annoying when they do draw out on us!

How can you not tilt when playing against a recreational player who plays 80% of their hands... and you've got a monster—pocket Kings (KK)—on a draw-heavy flop, and they shove anyway? You have 80% equity, but they still hit their magic card. 😅🤣 and knocks you out of the tournament, even though you played your A-game lol
There are bound to be ups and downs, and it is impossible to win every time.

It is essential to learn how to handle bad beats. The worst experience is when they begin to affect your sleep, making you feel completely disheartened by the game. In those moments, it is best to take a break from poker for a while.

That is the most valuable lesson I have learned.

Try thinking in ranges! If there is a lot of action chances are the board cards have hit there range hard.

I folded a King high straight the other day. The player profile and the betting told me one of the opponents had an ace. The hand was eventually shown and she had A/5s for the nut straight.

Obviously the terms are not well defined, and I can also not say, how much someone need to play to be a "reg". The most important point is, that we should avoid using the term "recreational player" in a derogatory way. We want people to come into poker and play for fun, so we need to make it a fun experience. And quite obviously nobody think, its fun to get berated or told, that they are terrible at poker. So we dont want to act like Phil Helmuth on tilt. Not on the tables and frankly not even away from the tables either, when we discuss poker in a forum.
Maybe poker sites should not allow any chat…that would prevent players from berating others…I go to a poker site to play poker, not engage in conversations.
There are numerous “recreational “ players who do quite well…many of the players you see on TV are recreational players who either have full jobs or are entrepreneurs who do very well and can afford to play poker for thousands of dollars…guys like Bill Perkins are actually recreational players who happen to have millions to bankroll their hobbies…most play high level poker.

You can play an excellent tournament and finish in the top 40—nobody wins three tournaments in a row; anyone who knows poker understands what I’m talking about. You can get cleaned out of a couple of thousand chips by an A2—that’s just poker. It’s better to get in and see the flop than to play blindly, though in the later stages, going all-in is preferable to extract value.

Another mistake in poker is going through a bad run where you make the right calls but the cards don't go your way; then, when you actually get that hand, you don't play it—even though that’s the hand that could have gotten you to a final table. I’m speaking from experience.

Many sites have already done exactly that. I guess, its easier for them to not have to deal with complaints about inappropriate or rude chat.

I actually think, its a bit sad, that poker sites have replaced the chat box with silly emocons and throwables. It makes the game more childish, and I miss to be able to say things like "good game" or "nice hand" in the chat. Luckily PokerStars still has the traditional chat box, so I guess, that is yet another reason to continue playing there.

Exactly. He was one of the guys, I was thinking about, when I wrote about rich recreational players. He is certainly nowhere near as much of a fish as someone playing freerolls and complaining about bad beats 😉

That’s poker for you... You can play the hand perfectly, get it in with 80% equity, and still get absolutely crushed by the one card they needed. The hardest part is remembering that you don’t control the outcome, only whether you made the right decision.

Amateurs are united by the absence of a professional approach to the game and a desire to have a good time. There is nothing wrong with treating poker as a form of entertainment and enjoying the game. Not everyone wants to spend hundreds of hours honing their strategy. People earn money in different ways and spend it however they please.

888Poker, A.C.R., & WPTglobal do not have any chat.

Why tilt, if you made the correct play there is no reason to dwell on it.

Just open another game and move on with life.

It’s definitely frustrating, especially when you play the hand perfectly and still get knocked out. 😂 But if a recreational player is putting 80% of their chips in with a draw, I’ll take that spot every time. You can’t control the river, only whether you got your money in good. 😅
