I recently started playing on 888poker, and I've decided to build my bankroll only through freerolls. I know it will take more time than making a deposit, but I think it's the best way to improve my discipline and tournament skills without risking my own money.
My goal isn't to get rich quickly. I want to learn solid poker fundamentals, make better decisions, and slowly grow my bankroll over time.
I believe patience and consistency are more important than chasing big wins
Have any of you built a bankroll from freerolls? I'd love to hear your experience and any advice you can share.

Hi
Most of us, as a community member, have been building our bankroll by playing freerolls. In fact, it is much easier to do this if you are a member of the Platinum Club. You are currently only a Bronze level and can play in our Bronze Freerolls.
But if you are active enough, you can increase your level to Silver and even Platinum. And then your bankroll will grow every day :)

Building a bankroll by playing freerolls is harder these days, though not impossible.

I say this because the number of tournaments has dropped significantly across all sites over the years, and the ones that remain are more competitive.

In any case, at some point you will have to make a minimum deposit—either to withdraw any winnings or to link your bank account to your account on the site—as this is typically one of the requirements set by poker sites.

I actually think it's a great challenge. Building a bankroll from freerolls takes a lot of patience and discipline, but it also teaches you bankroll management and tournament fundamentals without risking your own money. It won't be a fast journey, but if you stay consistent and avoid taking unnecessary shots, it's definitely possible. Good luck—I hope you crush it! 💪♠️

Hi Lollo!
I've started that way.
I'd say don't play till you get at least a small amount to start, without risking it all in one game. Also, stick to low buy in games ($0,10, $0,50, 1).
Meanwhile you can learn the basics.

That’s the right mindset! Focusing on discipline in 888poker freerolls is the best strategy. Play a simple, solid game early on. Level up on CardsChat to gain access to exclusive freerolls. Good luck!

According to sharkscope you have been playing on 888 Poker since 2022, and you have already won almost $5.000 on the site. Your last 100 games played do contain a few freerolls but mainly a lot of satellites and then, what appear to be the target tournaments, when you cash in the satellites.

Thanks for your comment! I think there may be a misunderstanding. I'm actually a beginner and have only recently started learning poker seriously.
The 888Poker account I'm currently using belongs to my friend, who is also coaching me and helping me improve my game. That's why the results you found don't reflect my own experience or skill level.
Right now I'm focused on learning the fundamentals, reviewing my hands, and improving step by step. I really appreciate your interest and your feedback!

In that case both you and your friend are breaching the TOS of 888 Poker, since account sharing is strictly forbidden. I suggest, that you open your own account and stop using your friends account right away, so you dont get him banned from 888 Poker. When you have done that, you should also update your CC profile, so it show your own account, since this is a condition for participating in silver and platinum freerolls.

Freerolls are the only tournaments I play, and they help me cover some household expenses; the only buy-in tournaments I’ve been able to play are ones where I won a ticket on social media

I've started from scratch several times and reached $200 or $300. It is possible to build a bankroll from freerolls. There are players like Anette Obrestad or belabacsi who started playing freerolls and now play big tournaments and have won thousands of dollars. You shouldn't limit yourself to playing only on 888; there are other sites that have freerolls, such as ACR Coinpoker, WPT, KKpoker, GGpoker, etc.

I haven't built a big bankroll from freerolls yet, but I think it's a great way to learn the game without risking your own money. Freerolls teach patience, discipline, and how to handle different tournament situations. My advice would be to play tight in the early stages, avoid unnecessary all-ins, and focus on making good decisions rather than quick results. Building a bankroll this way takes time, but consistency can definitely pay off in the long run. Good luck at the tables!

I think many CardsChat members have successfully built a bankroll from $0 by playing freerolls. Reading the "Poker Goals, Challenges and Wins" thread has been a great source of motivation for me because people openly share both their successes and the challenges they face.

I've decided to start my own bankroll challenge from zero to see how much I can grow it over the course of a year. I know it won't be easy, but I believe discipline, consistency, and a willingness to keep learning are the keys to making progress.

I hope you achieve your goals! Good luck... :coffee:

Many players have built a bankroll from freerolls by playing a high volume, staying patient, and managing their bankroll carefully. Freerolls are a good way to start from nothing, but due to high variance and small prize pools, long-term success requires discipline and gradual progression to higher stakes.

I have. It takes a lot of patience, but it's definitely possible.
The key is treating freerolls like real bankroll-building opportunities playing solid poker, avoiding unnecessary risks, and moving up slowly once you have enough buy-ins.
It won't happen overnight, but with good discipline, a bankroll can absolutely be built from freerolls.

Now he upgraded his 888 screen here to "baby_rose" which is yet another account from another member here lol.

Hi, starting from scratch without investing is always great, especially if you want to learn. Believe me, it's possible, but it often won't be easy, and that's when you need patience and to not get discouraged because many freerolls are incredibly difficult. My dad never invested his own money to play; he always built his bankroll from freerolls and always told me that every little bit helps. He managed to build a good bankroll just by playing freerolls. I've done it too, and I think many others here have as well. It is possible... I wish you the best of luck on this adventure.

Best of luck and cards with your plan of building your bankroll from 0 - I like the way you thought about it (y)

Nowadays it's way tougher to start without deposit/s as the sites don't offer (many) good free games... For example way way way back when I've started playing poker online ~2010, at the popular sites, we used to have freerolls with $10.000+ prize pools every week/month and at special occasions or with some easy to complete requirements - even some insanely good freerolls* $50.000+ in prize pools and I still remember a $1.000.000 freeroll on PokerStars... A decent in the money finish was enough to boost your bankroll and make you able to start playing real money games without the risk of going broke (if you had decent patience/discipline/bankroll management to grind the lowest stakes); while now you have less free games and with way lower prize pools - which means the start is tougher and/or it will take a lot more ITM freeroll finishes, hopefully in some decent games, as you can't apply any bankroll management if you don't have a decent roll * you need to afford multiple buy-ins at the stakes/games you plan to play to avoid going broke... That's why, nowadays, I recommend small deposits to save a lot of time if you already are a decent poker player, from my experience, the start - first $50 - is the toughest to reach... also even after the deposit you can still use freerolls/community games (our community, CardsChat, offers lots of private games)/site loyalty offers to boost your bankroll...
