Who has been able to build a bankroll from freerolls?

I came back to playing poker online a little under 2 yers ago and have withdrawn £2250 in profit, I have a bankroll of just over $200, T$40 and about 80 tickets to play in the next couple of months, mostly mirco stakes.

So I would say pick a site(In your case 888)
Set a target from freerolls and freerolls for tickets say $50 that is then your bankroll.
Pick a bankroll management strategy say no more 2% of your bankroll for tourneys or sit and go's and no more than 5% for cash games, you can then start play mirco stake games.
As your bankroll go's up you can play for higher stakes BUT AS YOUR BANKROLL GO'S DOWN START PLAYING FOR SMALLER STAKES until it starts going up again, as this will keep you being able to play.
Carry on playing freerolls as this will help you build a bigger bankroll.

It's really motivating to hear that both you and your dad were able to build a bankroll from freerolls. Stories like yours give me confidence that it's possible if I stay patient, keep learning, and make good decisions.
I'm not expecting quick results. My goal is to improve step by step and enjoy the learning process.
Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to build your first bankroll from freerolls?

Congratulations on building such a solid bankroll and staying disciplined. Your results are really inspiring.
I like your idea of treating the first $50 earned from freerolls as a real bankroll and following strict bankroll management. That seems like a smart way to avoid unnecessary risks and continue improving over the long term.
I'll definitely keep playing freerolls while I learn and gradually move up when my bankroll allows it.
One question: looking back, what do you think was the biggest mistake you made when you first started building your bankroll?

Get Platinum status and things will be easier. GGPoker, WPT, and 888 have some decent freerolls—they sometimes help me rebuild when my bankroll drops almost to zero.

It's possible, but neither quick nor guaranteed. Your main goal is probably to escape poverty, and poker probably isn't the fastest, easiest, or most reliable way to achieve that.

Just want to make a comment about this, because I can 100% relate to this situation of having withdrawn most of my profit. Even just looking at tournaments on PokerStars, I am now up almost $15k. So had I left all those winnings on the site, or at least in my poker bankroll, I would now have a decent bankroll for playing up to $109 tournaments.

Now maybe I am not good enough to beat $109 tournaments, so its not nessesarely a disaster to not play them. And of course I had reasons to withdraw my winnings to pay for real life expenses. Basically my family got prioritized over poker. But when I look at the breakdown of my games, I have played an awfull lot of microstakes games. And I really wish, I had at least played more $11-22 MTTs instead of $2.2-4.4 MTTs and more $10-25 SnGs instead of $2-5 SnGs.

Not only would I likely have won more money playing these more expensive games, but I would also have put more pressure on myself to continue to study and improve, so that maybe - just maybe - I could actually now compete in those $109 MTTs. The issue is, that in microstakes games you can get away with making a decent amount of small mistakes, because you just need to basically sit there and wait for someone to dust off their stack to you. And therefore there is no real pressure to improve your game boyond, what we can call a solid traditional TAG style.

So my advice to you and OP and everyone else is to please not do, what I have done, and continue to withdraws winnings so aggressively, that you keep sending yourself back to the micros over and over again. Or even worse to freerolls, which some forum members seem to be doing. Here in 2026 I have finally managed to grow my poker bankroll to around $4k thanks to a good run on both PokerStars and ACR Poker. And I have sort of promised myself, that almost no matter, what happen, I will never draw it back down below $2k again.

I think your idea is very good. We must not forget that poker is primarily a game of chance. The advantage of freerolls is that you can only win, there is no loss. I have been playing mostly freerolls for several years now and I have a steady income. The 888 site is a perfect choice for this purpose.

I’m strictly trying to master the bankroll management aspect as well from this month!
So far I’ve achieved accumulating $16.55 in winnings on WPT only through freerolls without touching a single paid MTT!
I’ve also come up with some designated thresholds to decide my paid MTT jumps!
So far I’ve managed to stay away from the temptation of playing a paid MTT!
Let’s see how things take shape gradually! 🤞🏼

Are there interesting freerolls in the ACR? I have an account there, but I haven't found any as interesting as the 888poker ones. What freerolls do you play there and what are the prizes?

I like to play only NLHE. Every week have freerolls, prize $50

For the past four years — ever since I discovered freerolls — it's been the only way I've funded my bankroll. I was just starting to play poker before and I always lost my entire deposit. Thanks to freerolls, I've already withdrawn thousands of dollars, in addition to keeping my bankroll ready for new tournaments.
