Reasons to Show Cards

Hi everyone.

Do you usually show the cards before returning them to the deck? I have read that sometimes it can be a good strategy to put rivals on tilt ...

Leave your comment here with the reasons why you do it (or not).

I do not usually do it because for me it is free information for others ....

Also, regarding the first sentence, it seems disrespectful to others, but hey, don't forget that you are reading a rookie's opinion.

The only reasons to show your cards after your opponent(s) have folded is:

To show your opponent that you bluffed them.

To show your opponent that you own them and there is little they can do about it.

I can't tell you how many times my opponent bets and I fold and then they show me what they think is a bluff and yet they had me beat ! So I get the comfort of knowing that I made a good fold.

If a new player is not sure if they should show their cards - then they should NEVER show their cards.

I have only showed my cards once after a huge bluff in a tournament. I regret it and I have never done it since. That was 18 years ago.

There's a popular new trend where everyone at the table agrees in advance that anybody winning without a showdown will flip one card over anyway. People enjoy choosing the card they think will mislead opponents, usually the one that might mean they were bluffing.

Just the other day I had to play a split-the apponent from UTG opens with a non-standard big raise. everyone before me resets. I'm sitting on the small blind with JJ and wondering what to do.It was clear that he didn't have a pair of aces, so I decided to call his raise.But pozdni moment decided to go VABank,because after I still have BB,but he took off.Flop A10X further XX and that think was have apponenta?Of course the a10.

My general policy is to never show my cards, but I'll make a rare exception for an exceptionally bad beat, to show the villain how lucky they were.

This brings back memories...in 2015 I was moving my furniture in a rented van from Illinois to Texas and the wsop Choctaw was running so I made a little detour to pop in and play a tourney. I was doing quite well and the stack was growing. I was involved in a hand and had missed the flop and turn and knew (well at least I THOUGHT I knew !!!) that he also had missed so I shoved. And he thought about it. And he thought some more. Then he started talking and looking intently at me and then he said "if I fold will you show?" I badly wanted him to fold otherwise I was done. Out.He seemed rather touch and go and I was scared he might call if I got too sticky so I said OK . He did fold and I showed my draw. Then he really took off..."OMG he bluffed me" To the floor who was near " My God he was only bluffing" and the photographers came over to see what all the noise was about and he said to them (also loudly) "Did you see that? He bluffed the pants off me". We ended up having a good laugh. Anyway I got knocked out just after that. All in all, a memorable experience.
