How often or if any do you bluff in online poker?
As well, when is the best time to try to bluff and profit?
Well - I am conservative on bluffing.
I saw this Annie Duke comment when I started playing, she said if you DO bluff, try and at least have SOMETHING going for you.
But I'd say my favorite opportunities to bluff ? 3? or 5 years into playing I am?
A pair in the flop.
Now, I find it CRITICAL to use timing in online play.
I act FAST - REAL fast - SNAP - BAM - and some over the top bet, if not shove.
Now, that's a risk, but I will do that MORE if I'm way down.
I also use timing if I'm slow playing the nuts... I will delay my response to a raise sometimes, to 'present as if' I'm REALLY not sure and having to think about it.
One thing for sure, if bluffing, one has to bring PLENTY to the picnic - that is, one has to spook the crowd with something big enough to send a message of confidence 'I OWN this flop'.
MY favorite bluffing though isn't to pretend I HAVE IT - such as noted above.
My success with bluffing is pretending I don't have it when I do - the risk THERE? is on the river, I MIGHT not get paid.
But that's a better risk to have I think, simply not getting paid enough vs - losing to a lie.
And when I DO get paid, no doubt it REALLY frustrates players, even pros get upset when this happens, I guess most people play using bluffing to claim you have it when you don't therefore they are just thinking that way.
Might be why it works so well for me, because it's not how most players think, according to all the poker books, youtube videos, games I've played in or watched.
But I don't bluff TOO often.
