I have played 6 weeks on 888 and won 4 of these 5$ tickets, and I have not even played these freerolls every day. Given that its basically free money for just logging on to the site, one cant really complain. They sure do more to make casual players come back than for instance PokerStars, where you might win a 10c ticket from time to time.

In a hyper turbo format like this you need to be extremely aggressive and adopt a "go strong or go home" mentality, before your stack get so short, that you have no fold equity left. Otherwise you just get blinded away.

In these games there is hardly any "fold equity" to be had, so many people are literally playing any 2 cards.
I've been getting loads of tickets from the morning game which has 6000 or fewer players.

With 6000 players 1 in 10 players will get a ticket, but it's actually even easier than that as there are quite a few sitters.
I almost play a push/fold style in these, unless I can get a cheap flop from the blinds with so-so hands.
Don't be afraid to go all-in with monsters, you will almost always get called, especially when the blinds start going up.
The last ticket I got I won just 4 hands, not counting the 2 times it folded around to my BB. The 4 hands I played were A-Q, A-K, K-K and A-A, 3 of those I was the first one to shove. I was way ahead on 3 of those and a coinflip with the A-Q vs. 5-5. Those 4 hands got me to 37k in chips which is where I stopped playing and slowed the table down. I still had 17k in chips when the game ended. A lot of my games go like this, wait for monsters and go for it. You won't win every time, but I've definitely been getting tickets more than 1 in 10 tries, more like about 1 in 3.
Of course strategy goes out the window if you don't get any cards and you get down to 2k with blinds getting big, then it's shove with whatever hand looks pretty.

There's another thing, there are players who keep playing aggressively even though they have a ticket locked up if they just wait it out. I've seen players with stacks over 80k miss getting a ticket after losing several big hands in a row when they have no need to play at all:p

Absolutely true. If you reach a stack, which is big enough to fold your way to a cash, you should simply stop playing. In the last one, where I won a ticket, I folded AA preflop and cashed a few hands later ;)

The last 3 tickets I won only spun a $10 prize (which I didn't get lucky in) so I was very tilted and hadn't played my Blast Freeroll tickets for a few weeks. Out of the blue I decided to play on Sunday, got my ticket which I used on Monday and can finally say that I won my first Blast tourney!

Small victory but the best feeling I've had in Poker in a long while. :D:D

I have used mine to play regular tournaments and managed to cash for around 24$ in the 1.000$ guarantied "deep" tournament, which run every day at 18:45 CET. I guess, its ok to play the blast, when you won the ticket, but it really is just a slot machine dressed up to look like poker. So at least make sure to not press the "play another" button, if you fail to cash ;)

Unfortunately there have been a lot of server issues at 888 for the last 4-5 days or so. Yesterday was sort of ok, but overall I have been kicked off the servers 10-15 times during this period of time.

Its bad enough, that this has cost me blinds and antes plus wasted time, but its only a matter of time, before it will happen in the middle of a big pot, so that my hand is folded and the money / chips lost. If 888 dont get this fixed, I will need to move back to PokerStars.

Good point. That is what I do, shove it in with good equity. It is more of a shoving festival than a poker tournament. I just wish we had more chips to play real poker with. Today , for instance, action folds around to me, on the button. I shove K 10 suited into the blinds. Small blind call with J 8 not suited, gets all of my chips. Bingo players. Playing aggressive with good hands doesn't always work.

Still loving this promotion. I won another $5 ticket this morning and used it just now.
I got a $25 spin and had to settle for 2nd for $7.50 when I was heads up at the start of the all-in portion and lost with A-K vs. Q-2 when a Q flopped.
Still, better than nothing.

Its essentially free money for just logging on to the site daily and then play these 3.000$ hyper turbos, which typically dont last very long, unless you are among the 600 winners. So there is not much to NOT like about it :)

i think the main problem with this tourney is the hyper turbo structure , you find yourself in push or fold situation early ( also the time we spend waiting for sitting out players on the first round) PURE LOTTERY !

For sure this format does not allow for a lot of postflop play, but its free money, so we can either take it or leave it. And its not pure luck. With usually 6.000 people competing in the early event and 9.000 in the late, we can only expect to cash 1 out of 10-15 times. But by understanding and implementing the right strategy that number can surely be increased at least somewhat.

Basically you want to be very aggressive in these events, until you stack is large enough to cash, and then shut it down. Playing coinflips is actually desirable early on, because there is no difference between finishing as 8.221 or 843. So forget all about “ICM” and “surviving”, because it does not apply to this format early on. On the contrary variance is your friend, because it increase your chance of cashing.

So if several players have limped into the pot, and you look down at 66 with a 30BB stack in the blinds, dont limp behind, go all in! Its totally fine, if you get called by two overcards, and if everyone fold their nonsense, that is fine as well, because then you just increased your stack 20 %. Last night someone got mad at me for jamming over his limps several times, but this is not the place to practice your postflop skills.

When your stack is large enough to cash though, you should go in the exact opposite corner and usually just fold your way into the money. I have folded KK and even AA preflop is this situation, because winning more chips would give me zero extra value. Some people needlessly continue to play, even they dont have to, and sometimes you will cash at the cost of them, so this is also an area, where you can find edge.

And finally, as you say, some players are not even sitting in, so you gain edge by just being there and not getting blinded away.

Is 888 better Than Pokerstars ?

I wouldn't say any is better, I like both. 888's vip program is generous while PS is not. PS has excellent software 888 2nd. There are way more players on Stars( I'm thinking PS got a 3-1 hold on traffic vs 888). Traffic at 888 is way softer. I once counted 25k+ in freeroll prizepools on weekends and monthends(could be more if your lvl 100+)

The main advantage of Stars is the larger level of activity, which for instance enable them to run multi table SnGs, and even during low volume hours its easy to get on several cash tables. At 888 certain limits might not even be running during low volume hours, or there is only 1-2 tables. Also Stars has a lower cash game rake especially for 2NL and 5NL, and there is no way around the fact, that their software is just better.

888 on the other hand have lower tournament fees, many freerolls and much better reward systems and promotions. I have written elsewhere about the current SNAP promotion on 888. Supposedly the cash games on 888 are softer, but to be honest after 50k hands this has yet to show itself in my actual results. So I am beginning to somewhat question, how much softer these games really are. Its no miracle cure to your winrate to move from Stars to 888.

For US poker players, if given a free opportunity to win money in any format it is good. But now the number of winners is smaller, but has increased the payout.

top 600

i like the prize structure, just play really conservative you will have a good chance of going top 600. much better than getting a 10 cent or 20 cent ticket.

I had a 9 day slump without getting a ticket recently, but just landed my 3rd ticket in the last 7 days (only $7.50 from the last 2), so more like normal again.

My best 2 hands the entire game were 9-9 and A-J (tripled up with 9-9 and better than doubled up again with A-J), until literally the last hand of the game when I got J-J and folded it.:p
We'll see how my luck is tonight after work when I use the ticket.

Your strategy is good. I do follow the same strategy. Whenever I have a decent stack I just fold every hand to get a ticket.

If they want to promote Blast tickets and use for prize pool, I think a better distribution of the $3000 would be something like:

1-300 = $5 Blast Ticket
301-1300 = $1 Blast Ticket
1201-6200 = .10 Blast Ticket

That would allow many more people to play Blast regularly and probably get more repeat customers, thus making 888 more money in the end while making the tournament players happy at the same time.

I quite like the blast freeroll. Harder to place but all tickets are paid more. If you go back to the previous format you could cash well in the money and only get 0.20 cents. However now you get a whacking $5! I am much happier with that :) You said you get the same as 1st as 60oth place (or something to that effect) but you cannot actually get first as it stops when you reach 600 so you have to consider it like a satellite. Personally I prefer this setup.

Its funny cause ive seen you post that you havent been getting any tickets before and at the same time I was blanking every spin. Highly likely its just coincidental but it makes me feel better.

Hummm, since this promotion started I have received nothing from the Wheel Spins but tickets for the Blast freerolls.

In the past, I would sometimes receive Casino Freeplay but now nothing. I do occasionally play Casino ($0.05 slots) and Blast ($0.10) with real money but still that doesn't seem to affect the Wheel!:eek:

Cause you play them? Try not playing something for a certain (long period) of time and then you probably get it from wheel ...
