Hey guys,

If you were playing at a table game and decided to leave.
Are you allowed to take casino chips with you for next time or is it mandatory to cash them out?

PS: We're not talking about any theft here. Those are your chips, your money.

Well it's your money but the chips belong to the casino... and they track them electronically, you can't take them out or bring them in👍

Well, here's one view.
Not sure if this would apply in somewhere else

I think it would apply everywhere since it talks about theft, the punishment might differ from a place to another though.
Unfortunately, it did not address our topic: Taking out your own chips with you, not stolen ones or someone else's.

... you didn't buy them, you rented them😅, you don't own them, or the glass your drink comes in or the cards you play poker with,

they can ban you or charge you with theft if you're caught ....but just out of curiosity why would you want to?,

....they are worth money if you cash out so cash out😎👍

For cash game chips, they are like normal currency with the same value as the amount printed on them. Can be used to pay for things inside the casino. Have seen players stuff chips into their bags & leave. Have seen players bring out chips from their bags to top up. Have not seen any sign in a casino that says chips may not be removed from the premises. Tho I always cash 'em out when leaving because they are bulky in the pocket.

Tournament chips are a completely different matter since the same chips may be used in many different tournaments. The casino has to strictly control each chip & don't allow them to be concealed. They cannot be taken off the table except when moved to another table.

I've never done that because I didn't see the point. But a friend of mine always takes one chip from every new casino he visits. He already has a collection of 7 or 8 chips.

Yes, it can be forbidden to leave the casino with chips. The reason is that casino chips have a unique chip/identifier and they are the property of the casino, not the player. You only own their value, not the physical chip itself.

If you take them outside, it can be considered a rule violation and, in some places, even a form of attempted fraud or theft, because chips are not supposed to circulate outside the gaming floor.

That’s why most casinos require chips to be played or cashed out, not taken home.

This is the first that I've ever heard of people getting in trouble for taking chips that they've bought/won with them when they leave the casino. If it is a place where I know that I'll be returning I generally will color up at the table and take them with me. Why wait in line at the cage, both coming and going. when you don't have to?

One caveat. Don't hold them for years because sometimes casinos will change the design of their chips. That means you can't use the ones you have at the tables, and it will be a real production switching them for the current style at the cage. I know this from personal experience. :)

I never took anything with me. I traditionally always lose everything I have, down to the last penny. That's my principled position... Although, various chips would look nice on my beer fridge.

I think this depends on the casino. Some casinos used to take other casinos chips. but I think those days are done.

You cant leave the table with chips at most places now.

I think the second paragraph of the article did address it:
In general, you can leave a casino with poker chips. Casinos do not expect patrons to cash in their chips every time, especially if they will be staying in AC for a few days and want to return later or come back the next day. When you’re doing this, you should be allowed to leave the casino with your chips. Chips also make a great collectible, and many people may accept the chip’s face value as a good price for an interesting souvenir.
But things may be different in other states/countries.

One thing to remember is that most of the chips we use at the casino cost way less than the denomination on them. So every chip that doesn't get cashed in is a profit for the casino. Years ago at Foxwoods when Frank Sinatra was appearing they made special chips with his image in the center. They were brown and their denomination was $10. I'm sure that none of those ever touched the felt. :) Looking back I sort of wish that I'd gotten one. It would make a great conversation starter if I used it as a card protector. :)

That's all new to me. Never thought they would do something like that. Moreover, never knew that Frank Sinatra made appearances in Foxwoods. Always associated him with Vegas.

I believe that for collectors, the value must be quite high due to the rarity of these chips! Good luck to you, Emily!

Definitely true.
Imagine having a couple of those now, after all these years? I bet Foxwoods would pay you a fortune for them 🤪.

I like chips. When I was young, I used to collect coins. I have a collection of 34 coins. Although it is not very valuable, I collected it for about 7 years. I think collecting casino chips is also a good option.

This could be a nice topic of its own too. Collecting casino chips! I wonder if there are people who are already doing it though nothing can be surprising nowadays.

I'm also thinking about starting a thread on this subject, I even collected some material on it! Let's do it and see how it goes? It'll be cool! Good luck, Sami!

It's my understanding that casinos don’t mind if you leave with chips, they only have value at that casino.
Just be aware that chips can be retired or replaced, so it’s best to cash them eventually if you want the money - and as always check with the particular casino's policy.

I never took the chips with me. But several times I had an irresistible urge to take the chair with me. Sometimes, such establishments have simply perfect chairs, without exaggeration, perfect.

He was definitely identified with Vegas, but he made appearances all over the place. He was at Foxwoods in the early to mid 1990s a few years before he died. I don't think that his voice was all that good at the time, but I'm sure that being able to see him perform was a big thing for his fans.
