Good luck at being a cool kid, Ice, but remember that 6-max is the devil! :)

icemonkey9 said:
We want a picture of this new laptop Mr. ChuckTs. I've spent the last few days writing up an article about Stox Poker, watching stox articles, working, and sorting through Hand Histories.

Why? You ask why ...

Well... well well well. I've made a major decision regarding my poker future. I'm giving myself December to "experiment" but I'm going to try another 6max-only month. For those of you that remember I did this when just leaving the 25nl level with banner results (5.7ptbb/100) despite some beats/etc (I remember writing I thought 9ptbb/100 was a realistic winrate at 25nl and still believe it).

The reasons to move to 6max:

1) I have a huge roll for 50nl so jumping into 6max at 50nl should be fine in terms of BRM.

2) The resources available in terms of players here at CardsChat, videos at Stox, and coaches around various forums is vast for 6max.

3) I've always wanted to end up at 6max long term. It's a more enjoyable and fun game, obviously more variance and dangerous, but a greater possibility of winrates.

4) Because it makes me excited to play.

So, I'll let everyone know how it goes. I just hope to play my best. Been filling my head with 6max videos before I start on the December 6max Adventure.

I am jealous Ice, but good luck to you. I know you can do it and then you can teach me your winning 6 max ways. Until then I will just keep puttering along at fr with all the old farts and noobs.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I have a real good plan in place, but I just got to keep an even keel and get the experience. I enjoyed my 25nl 1-month run, so we'll see what happens at 50nl 6max. Been enjoying some of the new vids at Stox, specifically by that code-guy.

lol I played some 6max last week. I couldn't keep it up, I thought it was too boring. Seriously Chuck keep telling everyone FR is nut mining. It's so much fun when you can consistently pound on the blinds and they don't adjust at all. At 6max you get people who actually 3 and 4-bet light(er) and I don't steal as much. Even though I'm playing a looser statistical game at 6max, my ranges at each position are tighter at 6max. Button at FR I'm opening most hands against a lot of players. At 6max everyone assumes it's a steal so I don't raise light much. So yeah, everyone says FR is boring and 6max exciting but I'm coming out as the opposite. Counter-arguments are welcome. But basically I disagree completely with Chuck that FR (at 200nl+) is nut mining at all. The players who take that approach are the ones who are small losers in the game. I may do a video soon but I'd have to be ahead of pace in the prop bet before that, wouldn't want to waste time 4 to 6-tabling when I need as many hands as I can get this month.

Goal: make a 25%-ish BR increase.

An 11bb PF bet on AA seems untiny to me... but then again, I am just a silly poker robot.

out of position and after one player already called the raise, it's a fairly small 3bet. i'd generally be making it $6-$6.50 (12-13 BBs) there with my entire 3betting range. but it's not like i think making it smaller with AA is necessarily a travesty or anything. balance is often overrated because your opponents won't always pay attention

 what sparked that blowup?

Obviously there's more to fr than nut mining, but at the stakes I was playing I didn't run into any regs who played aggressively enough for me to do anything other than play abc tag poker with some positional play thrown in.

Missed this before but saw it when cAPS quoted it. I don't remember what I was thinking tbh. I'd normally make it ~$7.50 here so I must have had some reason to lower my bet. Maybe I assumed the opener would call and the shorty would stack and I'd get some dead $$ in the pot????

$7.50 is a little big imo. i'd rarely make it more than $7 in that spot unless i just didn't need to be concerned with balance at all

lol blow-up? No offense meant. Just been told a few times by people that FR is boring and thought I'd say something that hasn't been said too much, that I consider 6max boring (compared to FR). No offense to 6max or anything, sorry if you took it hard. Just kinda trying to do hw/research/post and not proof-reading or anything. Not meant to be a blow-up, just making a point ;).

i don't udnerstand your line here at all, if your wanting to get it in, get it in on the flop not on the turn. But on that board i don't get it in on either

3 days into december, 3k hands, 0 profit, 0 loss. Ill take it over jay's november :p

well it is hard to represent too much by 3Bing the flop (other than an ace obv) and he was c/ring this flops all day. So raising all in on the turn is a much stronger line + gets more money from his bluffs. Trust me when i say that villain could have had a real wide range with that line. But yea, after >1 month of almost non-stop shit like this (the hands i posted from today and from the end of last month was only ~2000 total hands, and my first 8k hands or so of the month were WAY WAY worse) i'm sure my brain was moreorless fried when playing some of these hands. So i'm sure i played some hands really really bad. There just is no way to play when villain plays 100% vpip and always shows up with the nuts.

Anyways, whatever, it doesn't matter anyways since I've decided to quit for good now. Just far more important stuff for me to do at this stage in my life. I've realised that i personally cannot play things like poker/video games in moderation, and i just let them take too much importance in my life/freetime. So stopping altogether is best for me. Poker is just not fun for me at all anymore, and there isn't any future in it for me given that i need to concentrate on figuring out what i want to do career wise after this year. And I'm not sure how much longevity the game has anyways if UIGEA passes.

Anyways, yea bye bye.

Excuse me for a second while I pound my head into the keyboard:

hghjjk uihg

...

Okay, I feel a bit better now.

Here's the deal. Hold 'em Manager won't start because I don't have PostgreSQL installed (duh!) which then ought to be a fairly easy matter to resolve, right? RIGHT?

No. It won't install, because when I'm trying to install it, Windows Installer (the service that executes .MSI-files) tells me that I should finish my "other installation" first since I can't have two installations running at the same time. Incidentally, there is no other installation to run. If I don't reboot my computer at this point, Windows Installer refuses to do anything. So now I can reboot, and try to install again. Of course, that just means that it freezes up at the same point.

This has taken me 7 hours of banging my head against the wall, swearing and generally scaring my wife. She gets scared because I'm probably the calmest person in the world but if there's one thing that pisses me off it's computer problems that I can't do anything about, so the sudden bursts of rage coming from our workroom reminds her that sometimes, even FP gets upset.

Rawr.

Feitr - Is this serious? You seem to be a decent winning player, why would you let a bit of a d/swong affect you this way. I mean if thats what you want to do, so be it and GL. But look at my month last month. You can come back from this. Just take some time out.

Going back to the FR v 6max debate. I've played a fair bit of both, and 6mx is certainly more entertaining and probably more thought provoking. In FR if your all in pf then I rarely see anything less than AA/KK/QQ, very occasionaly AK. And for most regs you can wipe out QQ in that range. I even had one reg berate me for getting it in pf w/QQ. IDK, I enjoy the multi tabling aspect of FR, but if I ever decide to take one game seriosuly then it probably has to be 6max in the long run.

Number of bb is irrelevant. relation to pot size and stack sizes is what matters. you're oop on 2 villains and your raise is less than pot-sized. That's tiny to me. I'd probably bump it up to at least $7 here.

Played a session of 10nl 6max and it would appear that I do not only suck at 10nl Fr but also at every other form of poker ever invented..

Who knew right.

I am taking a pretty major re-evaluation of my life outside poker at the moment as well. Running for platinum really hit it home for me and and something has come up that will require a pretty major committment from me starting next January and for the next 4 years or so.

Gonna have to have a pretty major re-think of where i am going with poker, i will post more details on it if and when i decide to go for it.

This month so far has been 2 shortish sessions, both losing :(
