Poker is a game of skill. Chance can affect your game, but your skill can offset luck if you know your opponent.

poker is very similar with chess for me, it depends alot of what strategy u got and the amount of patience you put in the game, so yea basically is a mind sport, the person get more discipline when play such games.

it's like sport but with other kinds of fitness.
You have to be fit and fine, slepp well and
develope your own strategies for playing.
Playing chess is also a sport like poker...

I can say with confidence that chess, checkers, dominoes is a sport, poker is also a sport, it also has competition, it also requires making the right mathematical decisions, only an intellectual game that trains and develops the brain.

To me, it's primarily a mental sport, but there is a physical element that factors in just a little, in that you see many tournament players now focusing a lot on physical health as well, incorporating a better diet, and physical training into their poker training.

It's not dissimilar to pro sports in that professional athletes now train year-round, and come to their training camps in shape already, and using the training camps to get real-game reps before the season starts. Whereas, in previous generations, the off-season was a time to relax, and for many, when they weren't making the kind of money they do now, to work their regular job (ie: many Baseball players were farmers).

So yes, it is a sport in my view.

I’d call it a sport the same way I’d see chess as a sport

Yes, I consider poker a sport, because there are many similarities between chess and poker, and chess is considered part of the sport.

Have you ever imagined poker in the Olympics? let me know your opinion .... poker is a sport or a simple game of chance?

An olimpic final table would be awesome for exposure and that shoudl drag a lot of recs to the game ;), but it's better "small" as it is, we have all teh wsop, WPT, EPT, LAPT, and so on ,and those are our Olympic games hehe

To the question at hand, sure, is a sport, a mental game, such as chess

For sure is a Sport ! A mind sport. Who plays well, study, work hard to improve the game, knows how demanding for the mind can be.
I played over 9 hours on a live event and like 5 online. You need to be focus and alert, a little mistake can blow you away from the game.
The way I see is more complex to play well Poker than Chees. Chees everything is there on the board, Poker you have so many things that can change or you can´t control.

When I see ALL healthy, physically fit people at the live poker games, I will call it a sport. I just cannot get my head around calling poker a SPORT. It is a game of chance with such a LUCK variance where the skill level is at tops 10%. Healthy mind healthy body go hand in hand when you are an ATHLETE playing a sport. I would hazard to guess there are more winners (mentally and physically speaking) in Sports then in Poker.

Good Luck at the tables. Just saying.

I consider it an intellectual activity, considered a sport of mind, in the Olympics sports are aerobics, in my opinion it is very difficult to enter the Olympics!

I don’t think I would call it a sport. When you have guys getting massages at the table and eating/drinking at the table I just can’t call it a sport.

sports are skill based games and there are not so much effect of luck in them, that is why they don't call poker a sport,

It depends on what you mean by sport... Definition changes.
Its definietly not an olympic sport where you compete in strange, dexterity, speed - so to say - only physical aspects. And this is true sport for me.
But as many mentioned - chess etc - you can call it a mind sport - cause as any other sport - it has also a competition aspect.
But is competition everything? If yes, fast-solving a rubic cube is a sport? What about puzzles? Or math problems? Poker is that kind of sport.

No doubt that poker is considered a sport. Playing poker requires skill, strategy and a lot of knowledge.
