Do You Consider Poker a Sport?

The whole argument over this made redundant by the following:

Two women playing chess at a high level, pursuing excellence via competition is so much better than two fat blokes hitting tennis balls over the fence getting all hot and bothered while being completely useless.

The latter is a sport?? The former isn't? What matters is that both are competition, and in matters of competition the ultimate aim is to improve in the process.

Nah it's a card game. Not enough physical exertion to consider it a sport.

I agree that the game of poker and my sport are linked to physical activity.
However, if e-sports is slowly classified as a sport, then poker can also be said to be a sport (but the fact that poker requires serious concentration to be successful in it.

And many high end Vegas Tourny's
Largest cash in Vegas. $1750.00 in four big tourny's Cost $1300 for the four
Would of made more money working those hours!
Not a sport...Neither is blackjack or craps

It's similar to a sport in some respects, like chess for example, but there's this difference: if you play a perfect game in chess, you can't lose. If you play perfectly in poker you can lose for as long as improbability dictates that you should live on the bad side of variance. This aspect of chance will always mean poker cannot be a sport, unless judged over the course of a lifetime (the ultimate test of variance).

I think that if chess is considered a sport, poker could also be, chance is also in almost all sports either due to weather conditions or hitting a ball or stumbling etc etc therefore chance is not an excuse for poker not be considered sport
