Do You Consider Poker a Sport?

We can say that it is a sport of the mind.
Poker is a complex game that requires reasoning, concentration, self-control, strategy, etc ...
It is definitely not just a game of chance.

I suppose if you find throwing your money away on the turn of a card, is a sport, then i would say yes it is . i think a better name is stupidity . but i love poker and will never quit

Hard to say poker is a sport exactly the same way chess is a sport. they don't need to physical extertion which is for me necessary to say it is a sport.

Accordong to the Oxford dictionary a sport is; "an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess". ... It defines sport as "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or a team competes against another or others for entertainment".

So, YES poker is a sport. Its a mind sport, is competetive and requires skill, especially in the long run. By the way, Poker was officially classified as a 'mind sport' back in 2011 by the International Mind Sport Association, joining bridge, chess, backgammon among others.

All respect to Youri and the International Mind Sport Association, but I consider poker a game. One that combines elements of both skill and chance. While there are physical aspects to poker i.e. long sessions and when playing live, minimizing the information you give your opponent via words spoke and bodily reactions, it doesn't rise to the level of 'sport' as I think of the word.

I do like the notion of a sport of the mind vs the sport of the body.

How does poker differ from chess, for example?
Chess is also a game, but at the same time, it is both a sport and poker, a game of course, but also as a sports discipline it can act alongside chess and similar sports.

Actually no, because in my opinion in sports the strongest/best prepared always win, this is not the case in poker, still that is the main reason why we love this game (would it be fun if AA d always win?????).

I would consider it as a sport, in Poker you can demonstrate skills that other sports can present to be carried out: strategy, decisions, mental control (concentration), resistance, rivalry. What else is required of a sport that is not included in Poker?:elefant:

I don't think poker falls into the category of sports. Like chess, they don't seem like sports disciplines to me. But I do think that poker could be considered an intellectual game. Sport involves some kind of physical movement to my understanding. I believe that poker is an activity that falls outside the sporting range.

I think it is a mental sport.
Before I saw it as a game, but as time went by I discovered that it is a good mental sport.
You just have to know how to practice it with discipline and moderation.

It's a sport!

I consider poker to be a sport because discipline and experience are very important in it. Distance players win more than they lose, which makes them pro players.

I think I said in a hurry that poker is not a sport. Now, when many are too lazy to kick up their ass and go buy a burger and cola on the next corner or plaza, the whole sport will gradually move into cyber space. Sport on the couch is your future.

I don't know if you can consider it a sport. But you can compete on it and I live to compete! That's the point that make me enjoy it a lot!

Chess, Poker and all other board games are mind sports. The same way of the e-sports! They very enjoyable on my opinion!
