That's an interesting question. I've been playing for a very long time, and honestly, all the money I've made has come from sports betting, not poker. In my experience, it's very difficult to make consistent profits from poker unless you're playing major tournaments or you're an extremely strong and disciplined player. For me, poker is more about the challenge and enjoyment than a reliable source of income.

I started playing poker simply because I really like it, even though I was losing money at first. But now I enjoy the game and make a profit from it.

I started playing (and still do whenever I have time) for fun, to compete, and to challenge my mind, but having the opportunity to play in real-money tournaments is definitely an added bonus. People also tend to take it more seriously that way.

Of course, I play for money. I could never afford to spend so much time on the game if it didn't bring me income. For me, $100-$200 a month is a pretty good profit for which I am willing to spend my time.

I enjoy both aspects; I really like playing, and when I don't feel like it, I take a break for two or three days. I’m highly motivated by the chance to make money.

If the only goal is to make money, the game can become repetitive and increase the risk of burnout. Decisions are based on expected value (EV), bankroll management, and profitability—not on which table is the most entertaining.
Enjoying the process helps maintain motivation:
Making good decisions, Executing a strategy correctly, Beating strong opponents, Continuously improving.

I play for the emotions; the money is a nice bonus. The range of emotions a player experiences upon reaching the final table of a good tournament stays with them for a long time.
