Do you Prefer Tournaments or Cash Games?

And why would you think you significant enough that anyone here would want to try and change your mind? A little self centered wouldn't you say

I am the opposite. I find I do much better in tournament play.

Cash games in poker have their advantage, at any time you can get up and leave! In the tournament so it does not work)))

hahaha i really love cash games, I see them as the good and old poker, with a lot of nice bluffs and plays, also like tournaments, but it requires too much patience for me haha, except those faster ones, like about 3-4hours

I like cash games alot. it`s nice to have a break from the grind once in awhile and just chill with friends (and there`s nothing u can do about it)

It is a difficult question, a friend who plays professionally plays cash and tells me that is the way to win playing. But I prefer mtts, they are more exciting and fun.

Wonder if it is a skill set thing, some players are really good at shallower stack sizes and some are good at deeper stacks and vice versa.

I think in tourneys people get tired and they say screw it I'm going all in with this junk..USUALLY Against me and then voila 4 hearts in the community to their deuce! and then people laugh and laugh

I like to play both tournaments and cash. I also play different types of poker.

I'm better in tournaments so I play more tournamets, I like cashgames but i mostly loose money so I'm staying at the tournaments

I prefer tournament, but cash game with friends, every way to evolve in the game is valid.

The nits gets there ass beaten, because the blinds go up, in cashgames the nits just wait and wait and beat you with higher set... and u are down and need to grind up again, at that point i tend to tilt. In a tournament i get just as mad but i am out and there is not much i can do about it.

Interesting post. Really, asking if people prefer Cash or Tournament is like asking if they prefer tea or coffee. They're both hot drinks but each very different. Cash and SNG are both Poker and follow the same rules but very different fundamentally. Most people try each kind of Poker, spend a bit of time on them and then sort of make a decision about which one they're going to specialise in. I agree with the previous comments about donks being able to win more, and that's why bad players prefer SNGs and MTTs to cash. They can sense that the variance is higher and therefore they can use short term luck to erode the edge of good regs and nits who would flatten them in a ring game. Essentially, the added pressure of ever increasing blinds forces regs and otherwise solid cash players to gamble more and effectively levels the playing field. My OWN personal reasons for moving from SNG/MTT over to cash were:

Not wanting to pee in a a bottle
Being able to "Sit out" whenever friends or family need me
Being able to go make a coffee or go to the shop whenever
Taking proper breaks for as long as I want instead of 5 minutes to prepare my Pot Noodle
Not having to worry about internet failures (Players have lost millions in potential earnings this way)
Being able to go to bed straight away when I'm tired or sick
Playing against tougher opponents that will improve my game
Being able to decide not to continue the game (for whatever reason) even though I've paid in
Tournament Poker is far more antisocial to the other people around you in your life (Because you can't press pause)


You here a lot of nasty stories about how miserable Cash is. Most of these whinings come from players who bought into games that they were not bankrolled for. You'll find these guys posting on forums afterwards sobbing about how rigged Poker is.

I prefer playing tournaments online and I prefer playing cash live. I do play live weekly tournaments on occasion because the structure is fast and there are a lot of player who make mistakes in the late stages so, they're soft.

I prefer playing tournaments. One thing that cash games are quite boring and the other that I think that in cash games especially plays good players, so it is very hard to gain something. And in tournaments there are so many weak players that it is quite easy.

I've been doing better on tournaments. Only tried .01/.02 NLHE cash games though.

MTTs have higher variance than cash games. The swings are bigger. Sure, those are facts, but it doesn't necessarily make one form of the game "better" than the other. Higher variance isn't necessarily a bad thing, particularly if you practice good bankroll management.

The best game to play is almost always the one that YOU are best at. For some people that's cash, for some that's tournaments.

Just FYI though, drawing your conclusions from spending just a few months playing both forms of the game doesn't give you much to go off - it's still a very small sample unless you're logging a heap of hours multi-tabling in that time.

Also, and I'm trying to find the kindest possible way to say this, drawing conclusions about real money games based on play money games is... well... let's just call it "dangerous" and leave it at that shall we?

Most of the players play the tournaments and a lot of the cache,everyone chooses what he is closer.

I like to play everything,if u play just tournaments it can bee frustrating to wait some final table ,on tournament only ft make good money.U need more patience .Is best combination of everything

Cash Games / Tournaments

My experience with cash games is that I can get profit in a short time. I think it is best to stop playing when one has doubled his input. Playing longer doesn't necessarily mean you will get more.

With tournaments on the other site, you can multyply your input. But also the risk to lose all is much higher.

I prefer tournaments, but it is more wise FOR ME to play cash games,

since there you can exit every time you want and my concentration is not that good after a couple of hours.
