make it 12/12 :D but I do understand your concern unlike most . I can't dispute their odds cause they know that stuff but IMO you're probably going to be beat by some crap most of the time.

This is a stupid statement "you`re probably going to be beat by some crap most of the time"

In this exact position over time you will quadruple up once and lose once every 2 times you play this hand. And yes, the time you lose could be to someone holding 72o.

Poker is a game of making the correct decision. You can`t effect the cards delt. The correct decision here is call - end of !!!

I can`t think of one reason not to call here, other than someone playing to pass away time and not be interested in winning.

If I`m missing something please, please tell me

If you were in a ten player SnG, first hand, and eight or nine of the others were already all-in, it would probably be right to fold aces - you'd have a very good chance of 2nd or 3rd without taking a risk. With only three others in there the value of quading up is too much to turn down, it's not like you are guaranteed a prize just by folding.

If you fold something as obvious a call as this, you have to be screwing up alot at more not so cut and dry situations. LOL. worst fold ever!!!!

What would happen in a 9 person SnG if all 9 people went all in on the first hand, one with AA and the AA won? AA guy would obviously get 1st place, but who would get 2nd and 3rd?

ok how much crack did you smoke before the tourney? you were waiting for a better hand I guess? I wish I could smack people through this screen

thats ironic coming from the man who is asking why he cant win.

i would have called, though. but i defiently see where you are coming from, fcumred, with your "better safe than sorry" approach.

Is this completely insane ?

I was in a $3 MTT and I picked up AA on my very first hand.

I was on the button so things looked great till three players before me went all in.

My mates could not believe I folded.

As it happens I would have won, but I felt that to put all my chips in on the very first hand with no knowledge of the table was suicidal.

Did I completely lose the plot or can anyone else understand my way of thinking..

Sounds like the ideal opening hand to me with three all-ins before you.If it goes your way you are then a HHHHUUUGGGGGEEEEEE chip leader.

I agree you folded the best hand pre-flop, I agree this seems absolutely insane, but I see where you were coming from. I see online poker as a totally different game as "the real thing". On any freeroll or "lower limit" buy-in the 1st few hands are basically all-in-fests. On too many games I call the 1st hand monster all-in pre-flop to get taken out by 8/9 off-suit or pocket 2's lol. We have all seen it, most experienced it, you have dodged it. It wouldn't have happended this time but it could have. I couldn't have done it, but I try to catch that mind-set for the big games, so good for you. I've finished many games saying if I avoided the monsters I'd have done better.

Yes, I was a bit harsh. I appologise

I just get annoyed when people say `u are bound to get beat by a poor hand` when this is simply not the case.

I normally make the right move, get my chips in good and lose hands. I try to tell myself I got my chips in good. When someone makes out that poker is a game of pure luck, as you seem to be suggesting, it makes me mad.

P.S. I`m not an `Elvis wannabe` - I am an entertainer who is asked in the main to perform my Elvis show. It is a show `in the memory` of Elvis. I am not one of these guys that thinks he is Elvis.

LOL - not me!!!

I have already said, it depends on the circumstances. See this from my first post on this article...

We have had discussions on when to fold AA preflop. I believe if by other players going out and folding would guarentee moving up the prize money, I would fold.
E.G. Final table, 5 left, you are in 5th place, a long way off the 4th. 5th place pays say $300, 4th pays $600, 3rd pays $1,000, 2nd pays $1,600, 1st pays $4,000. I`m on big blind and they have all pushed all in, I would fold - I`m almost guarenteed to move up 1 spot at least, at best to 2nd place if the chip leader takes down the pot.

In the situation this guy was in my opinion is call - this is a positive move and over time a +EV move.

Horrible fold. What better spot were you waiting for?? Even if 8 people moved all in before you it is still an easy call.

but having the best to start with and the chance to quadruple up on first hand is to good a shot to miss . first hand of a $3 mtt with three all ins in front I might call with any pair just to gamble for the chance to quad up .

bad beats can come anytime with any hand so you can only get your money in with best hand and hope it holds .

I was not suggesting poker was a game of luck , although it sometimes feels like the bad hand gets all the luck .

So this isn't a case of forgetting you were in a tournament and missing the first hand?

You actually sat down, saw A/A and decided to fold it..... pre-flop....... in a huge pot.........

I don't get it at all. Terribe move, IMO.

Not sure how every online site would handle it, but the normal distribution is that they would all tie for 2nd, chopping the remaining prize pool among the other 8 players.

OK - I'll stick my neck out once again. Given the OP situation, I fold. I mention it only so the OP knows there ARE players out there that would fold. Please - save your time thinking up cutesy comments or derogs about my ability. Have heard them all, and I still fold in most cases like this. Nothing will change my mind.

When wouldn't I fold? When I really didn't give a darn about winning or losing. To me, it is not about understanding the game or the odds. A multi-way all-in pf (especially first hand) is just an opportunity to test the poker gods, and approx 50% of the time I WILL get busted (+/- variance).

As to the why ? I'm a long time limit player, and I would rather grind it out with cards I can see, than play the odds of coinflips and variance. By NOT going all-in here, I CANNOT lose the hand. Online, folding during the donkfest opening hands, I will survive to play on.

I will agree that almost all NL players would say they would make the call, and they would, and I do understand their thinking. Nothing wrong with that. Just a preference in style of play.

I would totally be down to experiment this hypothesis in a $1 6-handed SNG. We should get a group together and try it for the hell of it. Worst case scenario is you lose 30 cents haha.
